If somebody posted inaccurate information on death totals in Gaza, would you up vote it and double down with a post of your own?
Your penchant for Sir Paul Marshall media sources is odd if you worry about divisive online stuff. I don't mind your nonsense on climate change and economics, it at least provokes some discussion, but this seems petty.
why are you defending someone making stuff up about the riots? can't the riots be condemned without making stuff up? or perhaps you think these lynchings have been covered up?
And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show

If you want something that is better researched and presented and not just one self-proclaimed former British soldier- Joe Glenton- Born in Norwich who went AWOL- talking at you and telling you - consider a balanced peer-reviewed piece of journalism. This documentary might give more answers rather than the sound bites that are easy to swallow.

Why are you so desperately trying to find a single word in the whole piece to focus on?

i wasn't desperate to find it, it was in the first sentence.
we agree that people making up lies about the southport attacker was very bad and divisive and promoted extremism. but someone making up lies about the rioters - that they carried out lynchings - is just fine?

You're not seriously comparing those two. His use of the word 'lynching' is pretty clear to everyone except you, apparently. There's absolutely no confusion and, as such, there has been no violence as a result.

so he has his own special meaning for the word 'lynching'? and it doesn't mean lynching? ok.

And yet, despite everyone pointing out that it is a metaphor, it is the only bit of the whole thing, which you want to talk about.
Funny that.

it's made up hyperbole not a metaphor. but this going no where so i will leave it. i am just fascinated by the lengths and hypocrisy people will go to defend nonsense if they think it's nonsense on their side of an argument.

I inadvertently downvoted the OP, so upvoted it to cancel it out, as I don't need to watch videos from unknown people on the internet to form my own views.
As it is, and perhaps counter-intuitively, things are not as grim as one might think as the following indicate.

Apparently when people claim to be a victim of a witch-hunt, they aren’t actually witches. Who knew. Words aren’t always used to their original meaning.
Lynching is quite a poor choice of words to use but I understood what he meant. People were attacked by a bunch of racists just for being foreign or for having different colour skin.

They’re actually saying exactly the same thing.
The BBC doco investigates the community concerns over allegations of inappropriate behaviour towards some school-age locals- that were in part fuel for the initial riots- and the use of alternative news channels on social media & you tube to spread half-truths to fit a clickbait narrative that fits the hosts/presenter/influencer's broader worldview/mission/agenda-possibly aiming to manipulate street-level dissent through riot, marching or a click for financial reward.
They (the YouTube clip and the BBC doco) say similar things but one cuts out the difficult parts as it is not great for clicks or reaction- or revenue or the former soldier's broader big picture narrative.
One 'news' broadcast is more contemplative than reactionary. One calls for revolution the other dialogue.
Unfortunately, the new government and society are missing the opportunity for dialogue in the public domain. Dialogue that engages rather than further alienates sectors of society. A dialogue that encourages critical thinking in schools.
As a society ,i believe we should take some small responsibility and call out inflammatory self-serving you tube and other social media that distort reality in order to create an us and them mentality that has seemingly taken over Britain. (We won you lost get over it mentality since Brexit)
So context is important to what is being said. It is not on;y about who gets heard but the responsibility that being heard carries when we are disseminated and heard.

He’s not using metaphors though. He’s spreading misinformation that immigrants are being lynched on the streets of the UK. That’s dangerous.
How different is that from Yaxley Lennon going on YouTube and starting false rumours that immigrants are lynching white people?
What happened in the summer was terrifying for people of colour. Racist right wing thugs tried to set fire to a hotel housing asylum seekers. British Asian taxi drivers who have lived here all their lives were attacked . Shops that have served the local community for decades were vandalised. All this idiot has done is diminished the facts by saying people were lynched. He’s gone for shock value and turned off sensible peolle who may well have persevered with his message.

Excuse my ignorance in what I say below, because I am not on social media, apart from TWTD, so may have got things completely wrong.
According to reports, these days many get their news/information from social media but what we seem to have ended up with is silos or echo chambers where people often get a distorted view of things and never see the other side of the argument
I imagine therefore that the video in the OP will not be seen other than by people who agree with the person making it.
I suppose it could be said, therefore, that the general section of TWTD is rather unusual in the sense that there are a plurality of views, but even on TWTD I am not really aware of people being persuaded by a different view which may itself be evidence of a lack of critical thinking.
As regards critical thinking, below is something I posted a few months ago.
And given my earlier reference to Chomsky, it is interesting to note his take on education, which accords with my daughter's experience of the current education system, in her first year of teaching in a primary school, where passing tests matters much more than developing children's understanding.
According to Chomsky there is an instrumental approach to education. It is characterized as mindless, meaningless drills and exercise given "in preparation for multiple choice exams". This is evident through the state mandated curriculum where standardized tests are necessary to measure student growth and educational success. Chomsky argues that "the value of education should be placed on students' critical thinking skills and the process of gaining useful and applicable knowledge". However Chomsky's view of the factory model of education is that students are mandated to adhere to state written curricula where standardized tests are necessary. Students are inadvertently pushed to learn through memorization of facts, rather than through critical thinking.
Chomsky suggests that society simply reduces education to the requirement of the market. Students are trained to be compliant workers. The education process is reduced to knowledgeable educators who transfer information to those who don't know rather than to help students formulate higher level thinking skills on their own. In an interview with Donaldo Macedo, Chomsky describes education as "a deep level of indoctrination that takes place in our schools". Teachers are referred to as workers who merely carry out a task they were hired to do. Schools indoctrinate and impose obedience and are used as a system of control and coercion. Chomsky explains that an educated child by society's definition "is one who is conditioned to obey power and structure".
Chomsky complains that children are not taught to challenge and think independently, yet they are taught to repeat, follow orders and obey. Education is described as a period of regimentation and control, with a system of false beliefs.

Thanks for the reply.
I am rushing so briefly:
- Empty vessels need to be filled somewhere ( by something). If you have no info on a subject you may be more likely to buy the first idea presented...just to have something even if it is a simplistic and lazy something. - I didn't search for the youtube video of other questionable material that gets posted by very few on here. - I was surprised to see such a simplistic video gained support on here (twtd) when there are many other better analyses of the situation.ie The BBC doco. - Social media infects every user as do cookies with advertising on the www- of one kind or another. Even if we don't want to buy..the 'salesmen' will pitch in hope of bites.

Of course the chosen few on here see it another way, which tells you everything you need to know.

I’m reminded of this.
Obviously Trump didn’t mean “eating” in the literal sense. I’m sure it’s a metaphor for something else 🤦
metaphor is the code word for something that if you admit is untrue will undermine your side of an argument. boris not attending any parties wasn't a lie, it was a metaphor for the deeper truth that it would have been better for him if he hadn't attended any parties.
