Joyous news for those who use the A12 for home games 12:06 - Oct 14 with 2169 viewsMaySixth

National Highways : October 14th 2024

We've completed our project

We’ve now removed all of the temporary traffic barriers, cones, and speed limit reductions on the A12 between junction 25 at Marks Tey and junction 26 at Stanway.

Our road reconstruction work is now finished, and all lanes are now back to operating at the national speed limit. Please drive carefully while adjusting to the change of speed.

So to resurface approximately 2 miles of road has taken 2 years and cost £36.9m

How does it take so long ?

At that rate it would have taken over a century to build the M25 !

I've been driving for 25 years and I'm not sure I can remember a time when there wasn't roadworks on the A12. It must be a first?

Fear not! There are plans to widen the A12 from J19 to J25, and if it wasn't for an unsuccessful legal challenge it would have started ...

I drove down to Ipswich at the weekend, and was awestruck that the road was clear! I guess that not only illustrates what a great thing it is for the road to be done, but how sad my life is! Hitting those roadworks both ways for over 2 years has been a bloomin pain for every home game.

If only that were true. Local paper reported a few months ago already £11,000,000 over budget.

If you drove down to Ipswich why did you drive up the A12?

It wasn’t just resurfacing it was also restructured. Foundation dug up and replaced.

Wonder if the delayed work on A12, including some completely new roads, for example Rivenhall by pass, will avoid the axe come budget day. Ditto with the replacement of miles and miles of concrete roads which are due to be replaced over the next few years.

The job was always reconstruction and was supposed to cost £36,900,000.00. from the start. It was never just resurfacing.
The £11,000,000.00 overspend and 8 month overrun is a failure by National Highways and their contractors to deliver on time and on budget.

You were responding to a post which suggested it was just resurfacing.
