That today, without a shadow of a doubt… 18:28 - Nov 2 with 3996 viewsKieran_Knows

… goes to show corruption is happening right before our eyes.

If this is what the Prem is all about, then stuff it.

Rant over.

No, it’s just rank incompetence and inability to consistently apply/interpret the rules or correctly deploy the tools they’ve been given.

Really, really poor today. Don’t like moaning about decisions and there were certainly bits we could have handled better but I have absolutely no clue what’s gone through their minds on that penalty call.

He made a different point entirely to you!?

You seem to claim it was Corruption against Ipswich

The sensible poster pointed that it was “just” rank incompetence. 2 very different things

It's not corruption. It's sheer incompetence.

You can understand why people are calling it corruption though. Absolutely ZERO excuse for not even referring to VAR to look at Chappers up-ended in the box when the game is paused.

Illy said on Twitter it was checked.

Think the scoreboard was playing up, so we didn’t know in the stadium.

Really? Is that confirmed anywhere?? Surely the crowd would have seen if the ref had gone to the wee screen to check?

VAR is being used poorly in this country. However, for those who would like to see an end to VAR, the Chaplin penalty shout would have played out the same way as the ref didn't give it. Same with the foul on Davis against City.

He didn’t go to the screen because VAR agreed with the refs decision.

OK, just seen this -

McKenna's interview after the game by Dubtractor 2 Nov 2024 18:49
That's as angry as I've ever heard him - obviously still very measured, but clearly livid with the officiating we're getting this season.

Still a bizarre & shocking decision though.

I would call it subconscious bias (because we are a predicted relegation club)

The only clue for me that there was a VAR check was the delay in sending Phillips off - as if he was waiting for guidance on whether it was a penalty before showing the second yellow.

As are Leicester, not a great team for us to go down this route!

I am largely of the view that you should not put down to malice what can be explained by incompetence.

However, corruption does exist in football and we would be naive to dismiss the possibility altogether when such an obvious decision is simply ignored. Referees get things wrong in he heat of the game, and many things are matters of opinion even on video.

But when it is as clear and simple for a video ref to call as today's was, I am at a loss to explain with just incompetence. At the very least there is a lack of professionalism- either in paying proper attention, or in being independently minded. At worst, one has to check the betting patterns....

Less so, Leicester won the prem a few years ago, we are very definitely the outliers

Less so I agree, but if we think refs are being biased because we are expected to be bottom and Leicester perhaps third from bottom we start sounding like we’re making excuses rather than facing the facts we aren’t getting the run of the green, but we’re also not helping ourselves.

These arguments will have more substance when we’re playing the top 6 teams and it’s blatantly because of who we are. Today was a poor decision, nothing more in my opinion.

Technically yes but I can’t help but feel referees in the prem have a get out of jail free card with VAR which means they don’t make the difficult decisions in real time. Suddenly their accountability is watered down because there are a few blokes also reffing the a game from a shed 100 miles away.

Whilst we saw some poor officiating in league one and the championship I can’t help but think a ref in the championship makes a decision and awards a pen today.

It's not even just about a stonewall penalty and clear foul for their goal for me.

How many clear fouls on our players did he not blow clear free kicks for after Phillips was sent off? They were constantly fouling us and he was not giving anything at all but booking our players for nothing challenges and very very minor timewasting. It felt like outright bias at the very least.

In my part of the ground I literally saw people get more and more angry progressively from the penalty incident to their goal and there were loads of supporters that let out a tirade of abuse the moment they scored, some of these who I never saw react that way.

For me it brings back memories of Van Nistelrooy dived at Portman Road the year we went down, I have often been angry with referees, but I can't recall ever being more angry than that in 20 years.

But how could a vaguely honest and professional var person agree with him?
