Some thoughts watching Every Angle Spurs (A) 16:06 - Nov 12 with 4816 viewsThe_Flashing_Smile

1. The player's celebrations on the first were quite subdued. Not noticed that until now.

2. Jens Cajuste absolutely dictates everything in that move.

3. Great run and reverse ball by Delap though!

4. The pull down from Johnson on the second is incredible, even for a professional footballer. With the pressure on... he just kills that pressure stone dead. then starts an attack. Hats off to him on coming back from the nightmare at West Ham. It's almost like he's gained confidence rather than lost it.

5. Omari's control and determination after that. A lot of players would've gone down under that 'attention' in the centre, but the fact he shrugged it off and kept going is ultimately why we scored. Winning a free kick's fine, but not so much when it means the opposition can get back and get set for it. So so crucial he kept going.

6. On the day, I was worried Szmodics was offside after being fed through by Leif, but he times his run inch-perfectly.

7. I swear Leif tells him to run just with his eyes!

8. Again, fairly muted celebrations, though they've let themselves go a bit more than on the first goal.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

I like the way Delap made sure too by nearly ripping the net off its hooks. No p£ssing about. Love it.

The way we managed the situation & kept our emotions in check given what has happened to us in previous weeks & the level of opposition was nothing short of extraordinary & should give us all so much more confidence that we’re going to be absolutely fine come May.

On some of the views, particularly the counter attack it's interesting to see some of the other positioning. Morsy not committing to the attack. O'Shea controlling the back line as they move towards the Spurs end. etc

Yessss, Johnson's control within inches of the touchline was impressive. I thought that in the ground at the time, but it's even more impressive on the replay.

Good luck to him. I love a redemption arc and the stick i heard some people giving him walking away from the WHU match was totally unfair.

I noted the cool celebrations and liked it, staying switched on even in them moments is maybe something that was premeditated.

He does have that 'Hot-Shot Hamish' feel to him. I'm also reminded of his penalty in the shoot out at Wimbledon earlier this season. The ball hit the net before the keeper blinked.

Yes! Absolutely! He is 'Hot-Shot Hamish'! Might be a bit too old a reference for some but that's perfect.

9. Muric’s part in the second with what everyone thought was a dodgy pass but was actually a masterful ball to lure in spurs and make more room for the counter

10. Szmodics acting more like Vardy with each game, with his hunger, confidence, and love of playing well

My own celebrations were muted by the fact we have thrown away that lead too many times to be secure with more than 45 minutes left against Spurs (or even any Prem side). Had the Solanki goal been allowed, that second half would have been horrible. Even as it was, from 2-1 onwards it was nail-biting. I am sure the players have learned from those opposition comebacks. We really need to be on it at all times in this league even more than we needed to in the two below (and we had enough moments in those as well).

The flip side is, we really know how to keep it entertaining!

Watching that slo-mo, I think it's very likely one of the defenders might have been able to clear off the line if Delap hadn't had the speed of thought to smash it into the roof of the net.

I briefly cheered the second goal but immediately thought keep it 0 till half time and then they are really going to come at us.

The one thing Man City especially taught me is that the best time to take the lead against a top side especially is in the final minute of injury time in the second half.

11. Brennan Johnson’s defending for the first - he will not want to see that again (and again, and again)

12. Delap coming in for Cajuste’s cross - complete wrecking ball and takes out Bentancur and Romero

Delap winning the ball (twice, I think) before Omari's effort from the edge of the box in the second half.

The first win was great, but the second where he got his leg out high across the defender whilst off balance and still had the strength to win the challenge - that was bloody amazing. Not sure how much the defender pulled out, but nevertheless that work from Delap demonstrates just what a speed/strength powerhouse he is. Does anyone come close apart from Haaland?

On point 1

It may have been down to the fact it wasn't near our fans. Am sure there would have been more animated reactions had it been the other end. Also, minds are probably now trained to prepare for an unwanted VAR intervention!

I sat and nodded to myself for both goals fighting my urge to go, like yourself, mental.

Past experiences this season made me keep my powder dry until the final whistle. Had I been at WHL itself, there's a chance I'd have been on the pitch.

Delap did get an assist for the first one, but his mere presence unsettles defenses and creates openings. I think because of the pressure from Delap, it would still have gone in, but why not add one more goal to the collection!

On your point 12, absolutely spot on. Made something out of nothing really as 9 times out of 10 nobody gets across the defender like that and it just gets easily headed away.

my celebrations were muted by the fact that I was sitting with the Spurs fans, although my son did overhear a couple of other Town fans near us.

Johnson missed the cross to put Spurs ahead too. I am sure his Dad had a word with him about us needing the win! (Well, I am actually sure he did no such thing.)
