Watching Plymouth v Watford tonight. Whittaker has done absolutely nothing and looks poor. Not having the best season. I think we can see why a premiership team didn't take a punt. Were we interested or was that just a rumour. Bullet dodged if we were.

As I’ve been saying for about 4 or 5 years now, he’s largely a one trick pony under one regime. He’s not the worst Championship player by a long way, but I wouldn’t swap Hutch for 10 of him. He’d have been ok for us last year, but I imagine as soon as we went up he dropped off our wish list.

Probably doesn't help that his main trick was tuck in and hit it top bins. Roaming around centrally hasn't helped in that respect.

Also. It's quite funny really how Mumba looked dangerous a couple seasons ago yet now he looks to run in slow motion compared to what we are seeing against us nowadays.

a niche perspective

Agree with you both about Whittaker and Mumba. Plymouth look a shadow of the side that won league 1. Don't know what has gone wrong there.

Schumacher left? They’re a small club punching above their weight and we’re riding high off the back of a coach who suited them and a strong team spirit.

I’m watching it wondering what the hell Rooney has done to The Pilgrims. They’re nothing like the team they used to be at Home Park are they. No intensity, no ( dare I say it), identity. If their previous manager was available , I think I’d be inclined to try and get him back at Plymouth if I was their owners. Rooney is abysmal.

I can’t understand why Rooney is so highly rated within the game. I’ve seen nothing to suggest he’ll be a successful coach. But then I’ve never seen him working with players, so who knows. His teams are pretty rubbish though.

To be fair to Rooney much of the damage was done between Schumacher leaving and him getting the job.

Ian Foster is to blame for their decline. They only escaped relegation last season by one point. Rooney will keep them up.

Cooper is at Sheffield United.

You're remembering them from League One. They were sh1te last season in the Championship.

They lost a few of their better players and then they made a poor managerial appointment (can’t remember who it was now) who brought in a lot of players who weren’t up to it basically.

I think the Director of Football then took over before Rooney was appointed. It was all a bit of a mess by all accounts.

They've only lost 1 game in 8 at Home Park under Rooney, their previous manager (Foster) lost 6 in 8!

Phil said he was next on the list if Hutchinson didn’t join.

I personally think Championship is his level, so glad we didn’t get him.

Which does worry me a bit as he was so clearly no where near it, or a fit in our system.

I thought Whittaker looked perfect for us when I saw him play at PR. Big, strong, good touch, range of passing, mobile, great shot on him, scored a brilliant goal. Not seen him since and it sounds like he’s gone backwards.

Off our list I presume. It’s not as if he wanted to come here anyway, if reports are correct.

I think he could fit in our system, just don’t think he’s the required quality for premier league football.

He isn't like any of the players we currently have occupying the positions he plays in, and I do think people see what they want to see in him because of the long distance bangers, but in reality he isn't particularly mobile, certainly not defensively and takes a lot of pot shots which border on selfishness at times judging by the Plymouth forum. I wouldn't have minded giving him a go in the Champ at the right price, but he would never get in ahead of Broady for me.

He looked pretty mobile to me. Right size too, unlike Broadhead who looks a tad fragile. Don’t get me wrong, I think NB could play in the PL. quick feet, great positional sense, knows where the goal is, I reckon if he get the chance he will do just fine.

My point was that autumn last year for me Whittaker looked the real deal. But what do I know? He clearly doesn’t look that now. Maybe L1/lower Championship is his level. I’m interested in views on this because I’m sure he must have been in consideration at some point.
