That header Delap barely touched 09:47 - Dec 4 with 4560 viewsreusersfreekicks

seeing it back on the box it was a decent chance but he seemed to make a mess of glancing it in when maybe a strong connection might have yielded better results.
Was a decent chance that has been overlooked

Almost like the main area we needed to strengthen was up top, and we failed miserably

I agree with this.

Looked easy at first, but the replay suggested it was more awkward than it first appeared.

On that subject, we are the only team not to have scored a headed goal yet

You've got to feel if Kieffer Moore got that chance, he'd have got it on target at least

That's not a criticism of Delap really, it happens, you don't nail every chance you do get, that's football

Both Omari and Delap were double marked. It was up to the other players to use the free space to their advantage, which they failed to do.

Ghehi (spelling) was ridiculously up Omaris arse, to the point he’s a CB but followed him into the Town half and ended up being the furthest forward palace player!

Yep. He's a young player playing far too many minutes than he should be and the pressure on him to come to our rescue each game is taking its toll.

Poor planning from Ashton imo. Hirst was out injured when the window closed an our only other option was Ali, who is never going to start or come n much before the 80th minute.

Ashton got Broja all sorted only for it to turn out that he was injured and so not complete the deal only to get an injured player. It seems like we also went in for Latte Lath but it was then too late for Boro. Yes, it leaves us short but not for lack of trying.

Do you think he was recruited as the main striker?!

As good as Delap has been, we certainly weren't aiming for him to be the main man and we are paying for that. I hope we already have the target in January planned out and get it done early

The Ogbene injury and now Axel are massive blows

If Hirst was fit, I think he'd be close to starting. Delap missed a sitter vs Man Utd, took a goal off Chaplin's toe vs Forest, and the header vs Palace was a sitter too.

Davis' cross wasn't fired in. Delap had time to adjust his run and time the header right. Wasn't too high. Meat and drink to a big striker.

This is the problem with a 21 year old being your main striker. Players of that age are prone to inconsistency. Jan can't come soon enough.

I thought it was ever so slightly behind him and he had to pull his neck back slightly - they said the same on the commentary.

Maybe but on the replay it did look like that

Genuine question - but does anyone know if Delap is any good with his head. For a big centre forward he doesn't win many aerial battles - instead he's very good at guarding space and bringing the ball to ground. He hasn't caused a keeper to make a save from a header as far as I can recall this season, and in his highlights package from last year at Hull all of his goals were with his feet.

Not a criticism of the lad, but maybe (just a question) is heading the weak part of his game??

If you cast your mind back, Delap was signed with the intention of him playing wide right with Hirst in the 9 while we brought in other options.

Hirst being injured forced us to play Delap up top and his impact has surpassed all our expectations, and thank feck it has cos frankly, we'd be royally screwed right now.

That's a good point. Just because you're big, doesn't make you a good in the air. This is especially true in attack, where accuracy is more important than in defence. Heading is one of the most technical skills in football. Timing and co-ordination are as crucial as controlling a fast moving ball with your feet. Some players have it, and can do keepy-ups forever on their head, others don't. Let's hope Delap's bad miss vs Palace was a aberration, but no chance of being Harry Kane if he can't header.

I agree with you. I’m surprised it hasn’t been mentioned more. It was my end of the pitch and I was fully expecting the net to bulge. Not sure whether he got caught in 2 minds whether to glance it or not.
