Players you’d forgotten played for us 22:08 - Dec 10 with 8406 views | Illinoisblue | I give you Liam Feeney. On loan in 2016. Reading the Dozzell book and Jason mentions it’s Feeney who puts the cross in for Andre to score at Sheff Weds.

Players you’d forgotten played for us on 10:33 - Dec 11 by PhilTWTD | Stephen Glass? Was never on loan here. Was mentioned as a potential target in the Burley days but no more than that. |

Just came to me. Irish not Scottish. Seem to remember had a really good game playing in a horses-for-courses central midfield role against Forest. Was usually a full-back.

I think you may be thinking of Kevin Foley in this instance Phil. Who came as full back but as you say had a pretty impressive game in CM vs Forest. Gleeson was also here and bizarrely started that game away a Norwich where Klose scored that goal. [Post edited 11 Dec 2024 11:14]

Looks like he went onto stuggle in the Andorran premier league after his stint with town then on to French non league which sums up where we are at then. From watching a podcast with Mick featuring this morning, I now understand he had to make do with some very very basic options.

Players you’d forgotten played for us on 05:07 - Dec 11 by IPS_wich | In the Royle and Magilton eras (2003-2009) our team was comprised of a combination of: (i) players left from the Burley/Premier League era who didn't really have a saleable value - e.g. Naylor, Wilnis, Magilton and McGreal (ii) experienced Championship players who we signed on frees or relatively low fees - e.g. De Vos, Currie, Kuqi, Horlock, Forster, Lee (iii) players that came through the youth ranks. In this last group there were many new hopes, but in reality only Bent and to some extent Ambrose were sold and went on to have long term Prem/Champ careers. A lot of these homegrown players probably got more games than they would have done if not coming up through the ranks, and it's amazing to look back at just how many appearances some of them had: - Matt Richards, 148 appearances - Ian Westlake, 113 appearances - Owen Garvan, 163 appearances - Dean Bowditch, 78 appearances - Danny Haynes, 115 appearances - Lewis Price, 68 appearances - Billy Clarke, 49 appearances (I would have guessed 10) Of these, Westlake was probably the best prospect, but he went to Leeds and it all fizzled out from there. He was a tidy, industrious player with a huge tank and a decent left foot. But he was fairly one paced and wasn't a tricky player. Not one of our greatest ever homegrown players, but probably the pick of the mid-2000s crop (if we assume Bent and Ambrose were more early-2000s. |
Looking at that list of yoofs, I'd never have guessed that Matt Richards would've been the top appearance maker. The absolute dog's abuse he used to get!

Players you’d forgotten played for us on 08:55 - Dec 11 by _clive_baker_ | Westlake was a really good swimmer, I seem to remember him having a swimming race against Karen Pickering for charity or something and beating her. Billy Clarke was a proper talent, he joined the academy at a similar time as I left. He had moved over from Ireland on his own and was staying with a family in Stoke Park who used to house some of the young lads coming over. I knocked about with him for a while and used to go over and play Playstation with him, really nice lad who went on to have a decent career in L1 / L2 but were it not for injuries I think he's one that could've played higher. |
Did Clarke not end up playing in the Premier with Blackpool? Am I massively wide of the mark there?
