You see, this is why the economy is going down the pan. There you all are picking on Labour’s avowed enemy, the poor old pensioners and Waspi women, yet you lot spend half the year getting paid for loafing around mangling mince pies on your fat rear ends. It’s an utter disgrace. Hurrrumph! Baa humbug!
Whatever happened to one day off a year on Xmas Day? Everyone was happy (well, apart from Bob Cratchit) and the Empire was built! No modern day idleness in my day. I’d work up to and including Christmas Eve morning and between Christmas and New Years Day, such was my dedication and work ethic - something you lot lack.
The fact that working meant I avoided too much of relations, sitting around getting bored, provided lots of afternoon opportunity for drinking with mates whilst technically having been at work, saved holiday for when I wanted to take it, got things done in the mornings without interruption had nothing whatever to do with it
Is there anyone else out there that gave their all to the nation over the Christmas period as I did?
Happy Christmas btw

Can't say I worked over Christmas as we were governed by the times the factories I worked in closed which normally meant working up to Christmas Eve when we would be allowed to leave around midday as long as everything was clean and secure. I did however when working for Suffolk Lawnmowers (S,I,F, Birmid Qualcast) or whatever it was called used to work the first week of my summer holiday. We used to get two weeks off. The last week of July and the first week in August. I would do a week with a fitter being his mate although the rest of the year I worked on the Atco line. Horrible job where you did your three tasks on a moving line. If you wanted a pee you put your hand up and someone would take over your job. We got a 10 minute break in the morning which was just enough time to take the top off your flask, pour your cuppa out, drink it and then get ready for the next mower on the line. No time to wash your hands which were usually greasy black. Luckily I got a job at I.C,I. paints in 1977 and worked there for 25 years. Left and then worked at Wattisham for another ten years. Had a few months off and then got a part time job which I did for another five years.

I have three 11am-2pm days between 24th Dec and 1st Jan which is generous of work but I still resent working over Christmas. Working my first ever Boxing Day this year. Only three hours but still don't like it.
With that said, it's a very chilled schedule, especially working from home and certainly in comparison to the people doing real jobs - health/care professionals, police, firefighters etc. Thank you if you're doing one of these essential jobs and i'll try and be a bit more grateful
And a big shout out to those workers in many sectors who keep us all running well over the Christmas break. NHS, power stations, TV channel staff, to name just three. Well done, thank you, we appreciate you all!
Have a good one, everyone!

Heading into the North Pacific. It’s going to be a bumpy couple of weeks on the way up to Seattle.
