What's the update Phil?

We chase players for several windows and given we made a £20 million bid last window, there's not a cats chance in hell we're not all over this currently. He has other suitors, but strongest interest from Championship clubs by the sounds of things, sounds like he needs persuasion?

That would be a great idea, it could run concurrently with the Politics site he currently operates

He's an absolute twonk isn't he, can't stand him commentating and now we have to listen to his gibberings on transfers. He thinks Latte Lath is too good for the Championship, but shouldn't join a Prem club? Okay Don, nice one. Middlesbrough are not getting promoted this season, again, so would a player take the Prem showcase and a ton of wedge, or stay in the Championship for the forseeable? No brainer IMO, just sounds to me like he's hoping for an offer from a "better" Prem team, which seems unlikely.

He's right that Lath would be behind Delap in the pecking order though, so potential game time might be a problem. Highlights the conundrum we have trying to get another striker in this Jan...

Not heard anything new, stories a week ago were said to be regurgitating previous interest. Will be interesting to see whether we do go back for him, he was a bit of a last-gasp target in the previous window rather than one who had been chased for a while like Hirst or Szmodics.

What he says isn’t unreasonable though is it! He’s right that anyone coming is is going to a bit part player, only getting on after Liam has run his socks off. And that is our problem as we try to sign another forward. Delap has been/is too good - no one we can sign stands a chance of ousting him.

Poll: Right now, who would you rather have as Prime Minister?

Thank you for the response. It did seem on the face of it to be "last gasp" as you said, but he must have been on the list somewhere for us to be chucking £20 million at it? There's a lot of clubs circling the bottom of the Prem looking for similar type front men now, so it's clearly a tough job, but it's a must have, or we are going to run Delap into the ground and get him injured. Do you think the club have considered changing the profile of forward we're after given the circumstances? A fit body, albeit not exactly what we were looking for, must be an improvement on where we are.

I disagree - McKenna rotates strikers given the chance. I can see Latte Lath, or whoever we bring in, starting games to give Delap a break. If we bring in a third striker, it will be Hirst sharing the role once fit.

He's not wrong, but what player isn't coming into the Prem to be fighting for a place? Only the BIG money signings are going to be starting 11 material and tbh, I think we must be quite attractive from a playing perspective, as it's well known we have literally no back up at all for Delap, so minutes are pretty much guaranteed and the manager likes to rotate our forwards when possible anyway.

I agree, is the most important signing to make this window, really needed another number nine in the summer. I think we did precisely what you're suggesting at the end of your post last January. Kieffer wasn't an ideal fit for us but was the best available. May well come down to a similar signing this time around but not sure who the main targets are at present.

I think it is slightly different as last January we needed a starting number 9 with Hirst out until April. We are now looking for someone that is PL ready but that is inevitably going to play second fiddle to Delap. A harder sell and I wonder who we will end up with. Spending £30m on this lad Jesus to be a 20/25 minute man seems unlikely to me!

what actually came from your club sources about Lath anyway phil

I remember on the day you'd said you were told we didn't really go that far into negotiations and it was more of an enquiry or something like that, but then we had the agent talk of our £20 mill bid being rejected. Did we actually go in for him, or just testing the water

I suspect the agent talked it up a bit but there was clear interest and we evidently had a price in mind. We were still looking to sign Broja for most of the day, so was a contingency rather than a main target. Boro made it clear they weren't selling, so not sure it really went very far.

Well, if nothing else, last night should have once and for all crossed Broja off our target list for this season.

Pretty sure, if anything was happening, it would be reported on the front page of this news site run by the person you're asking the question to...

So if there's no news, assume nothings happening...

I've got a mate close to Boro and he had told me that we've been at pretty much all their games in Nov/Dec. I assumed that was to look at Lath but suspect it's actually Doak then.
