Bradford (H) 1986. Totally bonkers game. 0-1, 1-1, 1-2, 2-2, 2-3, 3-3. All after half an hour. 4-4 draw in the end. We won the replay at Odsal as Valley Parade fire was only the year before. Leeds (A) 1990. Five days after the Port Vale debacle, we beat an ultra defensive top of the league Leeds 1-0. Southampton (A) 1991. Dozzell scores early on. We lose 3-2. We take all three sections of the Archers End. Town fans popping up in home areas, fights breaking out. Forest (A) 1997. Ok, lost 0-3 but had a banging night out afterwards at the Rock City. We were also celebrating Bowie's 50th birthday. |  |

It was a hell of a squeeze. Proper arms trapped by your side stuff. The ground was already filling up when I got in there at 2pm (went on the coach). Hampshire police realised there was a problem when at 10 to 3, more and more boozed up Town kept coming in. In the end, the had to boot Saints out of their own pen. This was an example of how not making games all ticket could catch you out when you underestimate an away turn out. Nodge in the Zenith Data a few weeks after this was another example. Brilliant away day that Saints day though, despite the result. Gave Le Tiss some jip and he didn't take kindly. Proper rogues gallery in the away end as well! |  |

I remember being behind the goal when the ball dropped to Jason Dozzell about 8 yards out, centre of the goal. He half volleyed it in, I think. Tim Flowers was getting some stick from our supporters, maybe he dropped the ball at his feet. But it was so hard to see exactly what was happening as it was so packed out in there. I don't think it was until the 89-90 season, they even televised both semi finals. Great year to start though, right couple of barnstorming games. During the 80's the beeb or ITV would televise one of the semis. Can remember Cov v Leeds being one I watched. |  |

Your favourite FA Cup third round memories on 23:02 - Jan 11 with 1665 views | Perublue | A few stick out for obscure reasons and some I can not recall at all. 82/83 vs Charlton away 3-2 win for us...I'd started going to Portman road in '82 autumn and by the time the cup came round I was totally addicted to Ipswich. 87/88 home to Man Utd we lost 2-1 but I have a feeling it was live on network/terrestrial TV which in those days was still very rare so was a big thing with the nations eyes on us.....although I could be wrong. 91/92 .. replay away to Hartlepool listening to the match in the bath and lamenting on how far we had fallen since I had started supporting the Towen and I had been dumped by the girlfriend that day too....but the result led to the Liverpool replay match which I enjoyed at the corn exchange with a whole room of people who like me had not got sky at that point as well as a lot of pubs. I went to that. The winner cannoned off Brennan’s shins 35/40 yards into the net. It was freezing cold, snow on the ground. Eastville had burned down at some point and was never the best stadium in the first place. The bog where we were was a big caravan style portaloo with steam coming out of it like the Churchmans brick horror box. The difference was that naughty people were rocking it up and down and inside a wave of p£ss was rolling up and down it like a wave machine. Anyone daring to go in the caravan of death needed waders. So funny. Despite the cold, average football to say the least, we had a good day out. The other memorable one was Charlton in 1983 at The Valley. Allan Simonsen was playing for them, but they were a bit cr@p as was the ground in those days. Barn of a place with a huge terrace at the side. We were awful and if memory serves me right found ourselves 2-0 down. But we stirred into life in the second half on a muddy pitch and Wark scored a late winner. [Post edited 12 Jan 8:31]

Apparently the first time I swore! I was 7 and used a forbidden word when United went back in front. Lots of opinion that Hallworth couldn’t get the ball because Anderson’s arm was in his face. Thinking of the first 1992 Hartlepool game, the ITFC team was Forrest, Johnson, Thompson, Stockwell, Wark Linighan, Milton, Palmer, Whitton, Dozzell, Kiwomya. Subs Yallop and Pennyfather (who had one leg shorter than the other!). In other words, the first team. It shows how diminished the FA Cup is now - sadly. It was a terrible game and if my memory is correct, I thought we were lucky to get a draw at the time. Knew we’d win the replay. Ahh, the Liverpool replay and my only visit to Anfield……. Sir Bobby was at Portman Road that day as a tv pundit in his role as England manager. He insisted to Jimmy Hill (presenter) at the top of the show that he would remain neutral throughout(he had only left Ipswich 6 years previously) then proceeded to refer to Ipswich as ‘we’ every time he discussed the game pre match, half time and at full time!!
