Trump also signed an executive order temporarily delaying the enforcement of a federal ban on TikTok for at least 75 days. “I guess I have a warm spot for TikTok that I didn’t have originally,” Trump said at the White House.

That’s what people wanted though. They literally voted for a decrease in EU immigration which was well known to have a positive economic impact for an increase in non-EU immigration which was known to be less beneficial. And people are still not accounting for students, the numbers of which have risen dramatically and are a large part of the story although they’re transient.

Maybe a lot of people wanted a reduction in EU immigration. I bet those people didn't expect an increase of other immigration.
What leave voters actually voted for was to put controls on immigration in the hands of the elected officials of the UK rather than being dictated partially by the EU. Reality usually differs from what people assume they are voting for.

Probably said that more for your acting as an apologist for Trump and Farage for a number of months now. You said the main problem you had with Trump was that he was rude.
Never mind his efforts to overturn democracy, his criminal acts, his demonising of immigrants, his compulsive lying and his desire for an undemocratic oligarchy.

Also defending Farage's dog whistling after the Southport murders.

Herbie has been away for a while so has probably missed your highlights.
The rest of us can see through your faux intellectualism

A lot of what you are talking about is the labels you have placed on people. You have labelled me a Trump and Farage apologist. I have never voted for either. I believe that Trump is a better choice than Harris. I believe in intentional immigration. I believe that any non-violent opinion about immigration should be allowed to freely shared, especially if I disagree with it.
As I remember it I said that most people dislike Trump because he is rude (and arrogant). People will discredit what he says because he said it, but in a blind poll of his policies British people are quite aligned with his ideas

When I think of who is in charge I think about the end result of which side moves the world in a better direction. It is my opinion and I expect to be free to express it and welcome and support your right to express yours.
You are going to have to get specific with points you are trying to make because a lot of what you are saying sounds like your opinion. If you want me to state an opinion on something specific, go ahead.
Why is any scrutiny after the Southport murders automatically dog whistling? You need to be specific with what you want me to answer to. I can agree or disagree with a statement that Farage has made, but I can't agree with everything he has ever said.

"faux intellectualism" is just another of your labels. It sounds like you have an inferiority complex. I did go to university as it happens, but I have more respect for people who work hard than those who pontificate.

Seems the great civil service purge has begun with the people who Trump absolutely didn't know about in Project 2025.

The Daily Mail is free, so there is a run down of a primary source relevant to the topic available to read.
The fact that you would ignore interesting polling just because of the medium says a lot. Just cherry picking. I guess I will have to wait for the Guardian to report on it before it is allowed to be discussed on this forum!

That particular rag is the traditional media equivalent of GB News and Fox News.

My point is that the findings of the polling company seem to be fairly represented, so you have to go after the credibility of the polling company.
The same poll is used by the Telegraph, which is about as respectable as the Guardian.

Oh come on get real.
You have ignored all of Trumps "issues" and magnified those of the democrats (who I am not here to defend but at least they don't seek w/wide chaos and oligarchy).

The list of Trumps outrageous words/lies/activities is endless but they don't seem to bother you. Hence the term apologist.
How do you feel about:
Releasing all the capitol rioters even those who assaulted police officers?
Threatening Panama
Threatening Denmark re Greenland
Withdrawing from the WHO a body that is essential to combating w/wide health outbreaks etc
Rescinding Biden's ruling to keep prescription costs down for the poorest
Having Elon Musk in government given his efforts to stir up hatred everywhere and making nazi salutes
Seeking to make money out of his role with endless tacky ploys
Saying all Palestinians should leave Gaza
Stirring up hatred against immigrants
If you can't see he is the worst sort of fascist oligarchical bully who frequently talks utter nonsense then you must be tarred with a similar brush.

Expect you to rationalise your way out of this as per your posting history
I use the term faux intellectualism to describe the way you avoid the above with such erudition and long windedness.
If a poll from the daily mail is your evidence then it's about as persuasive as the Trumps utterances themselves.

History will show you to very much be on the wrong side here

And no I certainly don't have an inferiority complex and don't feel the need to supply my education credentials. I simply despise far rightism in all it's guises because of the way it scapegoats those at the bottom and turns those just above them against them. Because they seek power for their own personal gain not for the betterment of society. And because their creed is hate not hope Ever though what good Musk could do with his billions if he chose to? No thought not

The poll probably is about right. The splits for the more protectionist and xenophobic policies are about 52-54% in favour. So I can believe that.

The Telegraph is unfortunately a propaganda rag these days. The Barclay brothers dragged it down into the gutter.

Seriously? We rely on immigration to support some of our businesses, public services and educational establishments. If we turned the tap off to easy access of labour and students from the EU, where did people think those people were going to come from? Indeed, some Brexiteers argued that we needed Brexit precisely because EU membership was unfair on non-EU citizens. We knew non-EU immigration would rise - businesses were telling us they would still need staff. If was there for people to realise if they could look past their prejudices.

All Brexit has done is make it harder for organisations to get the labour and customers/students they need. Simultaneously it’s removed the framework that enabled cooperation on immigration matters with our neighbours ( https://www.cidob.org/en/publications/post-brexit-uk-has-not-taken-back-control-

I see you’ve mentioned elsewhere that you support ‘intentional immigration”. Virtually all our immigration is intentional. We issued 3.4 million entry visas (including short-term visitors) in the year to end-June 24, yet only only “38,784 people were detected arriving in the UK by irregular routes” https://smithstonewalters.com/news/immigration-in-numbers-latest-uk-visa-statist That’s 1% that aren’t intentional and officially approved, yet people have been persuaded by grifters like Farage and Johnson to get angry over that issue at the cost of our prosperity, prospects and in many cases personal relationships even with families. It’s crackers.

This is outstanding.

Accusing people of cherry picking whilst promoting studies from the Daily Mail and Telegraph, both hugely biased right-leaning publications that cherry pick all the time.
