Akor Adams on 12:01 - Jan 26 by textbackup | Imagine we looked abroad |
Is our business plan really that difficult for you to understand? This is our first taste of premier league money, our strategy is to buy mostly English prospects, train them up and flip them. Even if we go down they retain their value as they're English and count towards home grown quotas. It's not hard to grasp. We will eventually look abroad but we are years (and in some cases decades) behind other teams. The money that we can get from training and trading English players will help us to do this in the long term. I'm truly amazed that anyone can have the audacity to question the club's strategy after the last two years we've had.

No, god forbid anyone have the audacity to question the transfer strategy of a team sitting in 19th place with a boatload of expensive signings, only a couple of which look to have worked out so far.

And how are those expensive championship purchases working for us?

In the main, quite well, only one Championship signing so far has been sub par. For me it's Phillips, the only PL experience player we signed, who's underachieving [Post edited 26 Jan 19:44]

Yep, agree, KP and BJ. That said, on the whole, we are second from bottom. Remain there and we go down. Would have been nice to expand and maybe pick up a couple of players of real quality from Europe, Cajuste proving they are out there.

I don't disagree, I live in Europe and watch games regularly where I live, there's definitely talent abroad. But there's more variables with looking abroad, it doesn't always work out and we can't really afford to gamble or sign players who could get homesick or fail to adjust to life in the UK, there's also visa issues now to contend with and potential language barrier issues. We've, over the past two years, cultivated a great squad mentality. Bringing in unknown quantities could destroy all of that work. Ultimately that's one of the factors that undid us in 2002, I think we're doing the right thing, even if it's not enough to keep us up this season. Don't get me wrong, I want us to stay up (as I know you do) but if we don't we'll at least be in a stronger position to give it a go next season. Every day we're rebuilding the club that Evans dismantled in ten years.

I swear you think this is just football manager and if you click your fingers a player will come. Have you never listened to when MA is talking about trying to sign players there are so many factors to it and probably our biggest hurdle right now is convincing a quality player in UK or overseas that a relegation battle is worth it over other likely options they have if they are of the quality you desire. Then once here, there is the whole integration into the team, the UK etc, plenty of expensive quality overseas signings have struggled to settle into the UK and adapt to PL football. I know your point and I am sure KMc/MA know the same but this all happens in stages as other posters have tried to help you understand its not an overnight transformation. Too many sofa football managers and CEOs who think this is such as easy gig so why are we making such a bid fist of it.
