Good to hear Trump playing politics with the air crash 16:34 - Jan 30 with 10140 viewsreusersfreekicks

He really has no dignity, integrity, humility or compassion.
Blaming it all on democrats hiring of air traffic control people with psychological issues etc
What an awful human being - just despicable.
Just going on and on about diversity and blaming everyone
Probably all lies and rubbish
No sense of the occasion and peoples loss
Using peoples pain and loss to score political points less than 24 hours later
What a stain he is on America
He is deranged - warbling on about the helicopter going up or down
Keeps repeating himself too
F him and everyone who doesn't condemn him

When you’ve got a spare minute, can you put your skills to the test and have a stab at ‘out smarting and out arguing’ BlueForYou?

He thinks Trump might be right. Assuming you don’t, it could serve as an excellent reference template for the less tolerant amongst us, in how to deal with early indications of indoctrination in a non-confrontational or non-condascending way.

I’ve had a dab myself, but I’d appreciate you giving my homework a cursory once over.

i don't think you need any help. the majority on the board are anti-trump - and only a tiny minority have anything even guardedly positive to say about him. minority voices get roundly challenged and rhetorically shredded. the board seems to be the very model of free speech in action.

And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show

No one knows the precise causes of this at present, but that isn't really what's at issue here. He is making bigoted accusations without having any evidence to support them.

I do not know how DEI initiatives could yield staff shortages considering that they are attempting to expand the list of potential candidates for such positions. I do know that his administration has promised to gut government spending by slashing federal jobs. I do know that they have already tried to force out many federal employees by encouraging their resignations this week. I do know that he eliminated an aviation safety committee just a week ago, just as I know that he did the same with a pandemic response team shortly before the Covid-19 outbreak.

He is literally trying to create a narrative that the crazy woke liberals have put mentally handicapped people in charge of plane safety and air traffic control. Therefore, woke is bad, diversity is dangerous, and equality must be reversed asap.

Fascism.

"if you have no limits to hate speech"

where have i argued for that? i think uk laws which place restrictions on speech are set in a good place. illegal speech should not be tolerated. it is people going beyond the law and seeking to silence views that they personally disagree with which is the issue.

i would say that this is an example of hate speech, would you say it needs to be aired?

eh? i don't follow that all i'm afraid. illegal speech has a clear meaning. 'hate speech' is entirely subjective and in eye of the beholder.

are you saying that trump and his supporters spewing hate speech should be tolerated on here?

Textbook fascism. That and throw in an expansionist foreign policy a bit lebensraum if you will and bingo…Europe (including the UK) needs to wake up bloody fast. We cannot be having this here.

i'm saying that illegal speech shouldn't be tolerated, beyond that 'hate speech' is entirely subjective and essentially means 'stuff i don't like or i disagree with'. free speech is very important, and excluding things that are illegal or breach the site's t&cs, different views and opinions should be tolerated on here. not tolerating opinions that you disagree with is illiberal, authoritarian, repressive, small minded and intellectually stunting. anyone on here who says anything that isn't negative about trump gets robustly challenged and their arguments ripped apart. which is how it should be.

The question posed was whether it should be allowed. I saw no statement that there was hate speech on this site. You might ask yourself why that is? The answer is because this site is moderated and generally inhabited by decent folk.

Frightening times. The language. The choreography. The whole damn thing.

Edit - I’m willing to bet at this point that Europe will be seeing asylum applications from US citizens before this presidency is out.

That is absolutely staggering.

Really dangerous times.

The utter dishonesty of it all. As if Biden was putting mentally handicapped people in charge of ATC.

there are limits placed on free speech in uk law - most significantly in this context stirring up racial, religious or sexual orientation hatred is rightly illegal. but we don't have any wider legal concept of 'hate speech'. it is used colloquially to me something someone is, or might be, offended by.

Hate speech laws in England and Wales are found in several statutes, and differ slightly from the laws adopted in Scotland. Expressions of hatred toward someone on account of that person's colour, race, sex, disability, nationality (including citizenship), ethnic or national origin, religion, or sexual orientation is forbidden

no, just copying the first para from wikipedia doesn't give you the right answer. it's stirring up hatred (incitement) which is actually in uk law.

Briefly. Do we have an actual problem here with free speech? I mean you’re obviously allowed to say what you like but i genuinely think you might be missing the real point of this thread. If you don’t mind me saying.

i was just replying to a post which suggested that the forum was wrong to tolerate free speech because someone had said something positive about trump. threads tend to have a life of their own.

The plane crash or the rise of Nazi America?

https://libcom.org/article/spectacular-times

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Situationist_International

'Essential to situationist theory was the concept of the spectacle, a unified critique of advanced capitalism of which a primary concern was the progressively increasing tendency towards the expression and mediation of social relations through images.[2] The situationists believed that the shift from individual expression through directly lived experiences, or the first-hand fulfillment of authentic desires, to individual expression by proxy through the exchange or consumption of commodities, or passive second-hand alienation, inflicted significant and far-reaching damage to the quality of human life for both individuals and society.'

I was out with work colleagues who do the same job as me all around the country. People who I respect the intelligence of and to do the job need to be reasonably balanced and have good people skills.

Trump came up in conversation. He literally split the room.
Farridge is now at the same point.

With the constant media bashing of Starmer and Labour and them not being allowed to try and make things better and right a few wrongs. In 4 years time the Tory memory will still be fresh, Starmer will have been seen to have failed and the British people will turn to Reform. God forbid where we go from there. Worrying times indeed.

And most of the opinions will be formed by a heavily manipulated media and social media echo chambers, driven by wealthy people with agendas.

Social Media appears to be far more invidious and effective in the way it indoctrinates that print media ever was.
