Good to hear Trump playing politics with the air crash 16:34 - Jan 30 with 9590 viewsreusersfreekicks

He really has no dignity, integrity, humility or compassion.
Blaming it all on democrats hiring of air traffic control people with psychological issues etc
What an awful human being - just despicable.
Just going on and on about diversity and blaming everyone
Probably all lies and rubbish
No sense of the occasion and peoples loss
Using peoples pain and loss to score political points less than 24 hours later
What a stain he is on America
He is deranged - warbling on about the helicopter going up or down
Keeps repeating himself too
F him and everyone who doesn't condemn him

Terrifying. Will the 2030s be like the 1930s?

I think it’ll be a little less tidy as effectively we’re at the 1933 stage now so a bit ahead of schedule for historical symmetry.

i don't think you need any help. the majority on the board are anti-trump - and only a tiny minority have anything even guardedly positive to say about him. minority voices get roundly challenged and rhetorically shredded. the board seems to be the very model of free speech in action.

But roundly challenging and rhetorically shredding, rather than simply mocking, laughing and pointing is a good way of making sure everything will be okay, yeah?

I appreciate my definition of okay won’t match yours, because I can’t get see anything kind and decent in the likes of Trump, Musk, Netanyahu and Farage, but we’re on the right track by not marginalising the folks who do see the good in these individuals I assume?

Poll: September 2025. Which one?

mocking, laughing and pointing are also elements of free speech. so fill your boots. i don't think you could really argue that those who see good in trump etc aren't marginalised on here - and again, that's just fine by me.

And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show

Just carried on flying straight into the plane by the looks of it. Hard to imagine isn’t it, and no doubt will fuel a few conspiracies. A former military pilot interviewed yesterday said that the night sight goggles they may have been using are quite restrictive and cut out peripheral vision. It’s possible they literally couldn’t see it if they were on converging paths. In their conversation with air traffic control that also said they had visual with the plane, but it could have been a different plane as there were several coming in to land at the time.

Who knows, as he was just speculating. I think we’re looking at about a month before the preliminary report is due.

It’s heartbreaking reading the first stories emerging of the victims.

Poll: Do you think Pert is key to all of this?

Complacency is a huge problem with the centre to moderate left and the centre-right. It caused BREXIT remain and Karmala Harris to loose two of the most critical political races of the last 50 years. I am centre-left and am guilty of it myself. Unless we pull our fingers out the 2030s could indeed be like the 1930s.

I really don't think thats true.

Complacency didnt cause brexit. Ignorance and misinformation did. Alongside the refusal of Corbyn to oppose it.

I would counter that lies caused both of those things. It's now acceptable to simply make stuff up and people will believe you if they already believe your narrative.

We saw this countless times during the Brexit campaign from Boris and we see it daily from Trump.

Yesterday it was stuff about the DEI and ATC without any evidence, the day before it was sending 50m USD worth of condoms to Hamas.

Badenoch did a not dissimilar thing on the Kuensberg programme on Sunday when she said, without evidence, that reason the Southport killer did what he did was that he was not integrated into society.

Kuensberg pointed out the lack of evidence for this claim, and also said that the family concerned were Christian.

As with Trump, it is a case of trying to make political capital (and racist capital) out of a tragedy.

you counter free speech with free speech. you out smart them, out argue them and prove them wrong. your views are in the majority on here so it must be working. silencing stuff you disagree with is best left to despots and bullies.

This is exactly right.

There's an example from some years ago I always go back to: Nick Griffin's appearance on BBC QT.

It was strongly opposed in some quarters. I was approached on my uni campus at the time by someone asking me to sign a petition objecting. I declined.

What happened in that appearance? He was challenged and exposed, and has never recovered the same publicity or influence he had around that time.

The way to eradicate darkness is to shine a light on it, not pretend it isn't there and avoid looking that way.

no, just copying the first para from wikipedia doesn't give you the right answer. it's stirring up hatred (incitement) which is actually in uk law.

Not going to claim to be an expert in this field, but Scottish law includes racially aggravated harassment, with it being an offence to act in a manner "which causes, or is intended to cause, another person alarm or distress".

English/Welsh law also has religious/racial harassment as an offence, but the definition of harassment seems to be less clear.

I think times have changed though, it's now not possible to "out argue" them because facts don't matter, they will simply double down on what has been said.

It's a real issue as is the perception with many nowadays that all opinions carry equal weight.

It sounds like a good argument, but we’re at a place where Nazi salutes are being thrown in the official inauguration afterparty. I’d say that suggests that shining a light doesn’t always work.

Precisely, the out argue them method is very difficult in the modern age.
Truth needs to be highlighted and persistent liars and sh1tstirrers shut down

This is spot on. Facts and reason are not enough. The state of the media (and particularly social media) is such that they are readily over ridden by echo chamber algorythmns and the sheer weight and quanity of enticing nonsense put out.
