I would say 80% of the genuinely over-the-top comments are probably coming from the 10,000 or so fans who have rediscovered they support Ipswich in the last three years.
They're used to winning, so now it’s going wrong, the toys get thrown out the pram. They’ll slowly drift away if we return to the Chsmpionship.
That said, there are questions to be raised.
Perspective is of course important. We’re not relegated yet and there are plenty of points to play for.
But in order to have perspective, there needs to be realism and, right now, the reality is we don’t score enough goals or make the right decisions in the final third, we make too many errors at the back and our goalkeeper is the worst in the division by a mile. We are heading for a sub 30 points total which means relegation.
But unfortunately yesterday’s results showed the gulf between the promoted teams and the Prem. McKenna and the board have done fantastically well and deserve to be applauded, regardless of whether people think that’s happy clapping.
They have given the Prem a right go, yes some signings haven’t worked out, but I despair when people say our squad was better as it was. No, it was miles off competing in the Prem and, when you look at the money we’ve spent and the impact we’ve made, you realise how difficult this league has become.
But we are not dead and buried yet, we will pick up an unexpected win or two. And even if this season ends in relegation, the club has the squad, infrastructure and finances to have a bright future for many years to come. [Post edited 2 Feb 12:50]

Then we may as well have given those who got us up a chance at proving themselves in terms of the first XI. I certainly don't deny we needed to strengthen the depth of the squad, and some players (notably H Clarke and Luongo) have shown to be found wanting at this level, but others have performed decently when called upon but not given a long run in the team. To what benefit? |

I'd argue our best run of games - Arsenal (defensively, considering we had just lost 4-0 to Newcastle), Chelsea, Fulham and Brighton, up to the hour mark. After the first half against Brighton I remember believing that we had a very good chance of staying up. To say we've wobbled since is an understatement. | |

I think if we sack after he's struggled for the first time that's very poor on our part. If we go down I'd want McKenna to take us back up. I don't think that he will because he'll get offers and he's earnt the right to take those, but I certainly don't think we should be looking to get rid of him. Not in a million years. | |
