Muric has made mistakes, but GK's get hammered more than any other players. Encisos finishing was horrific yesterday. Delap chose to dive when he could have shot. Those events get glossed over.

You don't need to be a genius IMO. Yesterday he had a 'goals prevented' of -1.42. Ramsdale was at 0.36. Forget about everything else, that is the difference between winning and losing. It's nowhere near close to being good enough and whilst I know it's the team, the simple stats don't lie. The shots we are conceding are no different to other teams, we are just conceding when a competent keeper would keep them out.

Why would you forget about other peoples mistakes? I love Delap. But his dive was disgusting, especially as he could have got a shot away. Enciso's finishing was horrific. [Post edited 2 Feb 15:10]

Because the thread/ conversation is about the standard of goalkeeping and just about everything tells us that the standard of goalkeeping we have is sub standard. Of course the team is at fault but the standard of keeping is awful. [Post edited 2 Feb 15:14]

The difference is however with Muric on the team sheet, we can expect at least one mistake every game.

The context is fairly meaningless though? Muric conceded -1.42 more 'goals' than the shots he faced deserved. The shots should have been stopped prior to being made but once they had occurred he does terribly to stop them. So yes, the standard of goalkeeping is terrible and he's right to use Muric as an example. He could also have used Verbruggen or Hermansen from yesterday. That doesn't change because Enciso should have scored.

The context and balance shows that Muric isnt totally to blame for the result, as some would have us believe.

Delap's the only reason we're seven points clear of Southampton, even after yesterday. Muric's a key reason why we're three points off safety instead of above the line. That's why he's getting the criticism, even though I agree with you regarding Delap's dive... and awful shot... yesterday. But overall he had a very good game. Muric didn't.

Delap not picking out an unmarked Enciso on the penalty and chosing to shoot from an impossible angle seems to have been missed too. Footballers make mistakes and bad choices the same as we all do. It's just a shame that some only see from one perspective. It's even more of a shame that we have find one particular player to blame it on. It looks like Muric will be our No1 for a while with Walton. What better way to get behind him than post after post, threadafter thread stating how crap he is. The fella has made some big mistakes, but how about we try to get behind the lad when he next plays, rather than some of the abuse I saw hurled at him from SBRL yesterday.

Watching Man City make a mess of playing out from the back is quite amusing, Arsenal let them off the second major error.

Why meaningless? The fact Enciso didn't score, or Broadhead for that matter, or that Delap didn't pass to Enciso when better placed are 100% part of the context of a 100 minute game of football. To focus only on two errors made by the keeper (that led to goals) and nothing else, feels a little myopic.

Literally a problem area for us and we're using this odd analytics site and its likely to be making their reputation sour.
"Brendan Roslund, Goalkeeper.com COO, said of the deal: “Our partnership with Ipswich is very exciting for us. Working tightly with them to use the full power of our unique capabilities going forward is excellent to be a part of"
Everyone side eyeing Ipswich with the large negative goal difference and the appearance of some issues at the back, then looking at goalkeeper.com and saying yeah nah. [Post edited 2 Feb 17:31]

Because the thread is nothing about our failure to score. It's about Jamie Carragher stating the standard of keeping is bad and specifically naming Muric. I agreed and gave further context. I'm not only focusing on that, it's literally what the OP was about.

Yes there were contributing factors as to why we didn't win but he's the main one. Viewing Muric through the prism of yesterday though is equally meaningless. Broadly he has been utterly wretched for us and will be one of the principal reasons (if not the main one) we may well be going down. I am not exaggerating to say, we could feasibly be 7-10pts better off this year had we not had him in goal. Some people are prepared to die on this Muric hill despite what's staring them in the face. Utterly baffling. The other players you mention have an enormous amount of credit in the bank and as has been pointed out, Delap is one of the reasons we have any chance at all. On balance, they are a huge net positive to the team. To add - I have nothing personal against him and the abuse on here yesterday was way OTT and crossed the line tbh. Professionally though, I think he's been an abomination. [Post edited 2 Feb 18:16]

I don't get it. The thread was literally already about the standard of goal keeping and specifically Muric? If you're going to disagree then post something about Muric being an average or good keeper. The other elements of the game have nothing to do with the fact that he let in '1.42 goals' than a goalkeeper should have.

I can't really speak for anyone else, but if I am defending Muric, it's my natural reaction to seeing an indivdual being dismantled in the way Muric is. I certainly have no desire to die on any hill defending the indefensible. Muric has made mistakes. They have sometimes cost us goals. They have sometimes cost us games. I think the Bournmouth goal was a far worse error than anything he did yesterday. It seems that any player with credit in the bank is immune from any critique. As it happens, I rarely post anything negative about our players unless it is obvious they're not trying or don't care. That can't be levelled at any of this squad. I think to apportion blame for our likely relegation on one single player is just wrong, when other players also made game changing errors too. If we were to have a chat over a beer, I'm sure there is much about Muric we would agree on, but when I see a player in an Ipswich Town shirt on the receiving end of unnecessary abuse (of which Morsy and KM have have already spoke out about) I tend to favour offering some form of defence. PS. I'm not infering you've been abusive, but far too many here have.

That's the 4th time you've used that stat to prove your point across a couple of threads. For what it's worth I think he is an average keeper. He does some stuff reasonably well. He makes a hash of other stuff. Such is the lot of a keeper. Dragging out stats to prove how poor he is changes nothing. With Walton's injury he's likely going to be between the stocks for the forseeable future. For us to have any chance of staying in the league, we're going to have to get behind every player who pulls on the blue shirt. The thought of hearing the abuse of certain sections of our fan base makes the match day experience much less appealing to me. Over these last few games we need to pull together not pull ourselves apart over one player who is doing their best. No one is saying it's good enough, but to get on his back and make him worse is just an unfathomable decision to make. This is a general point and not aimed at you specifically.
