We CAN NOT give up and let our heads go down - 'together' 21:40 - Feb 1 with 1907 viewsTresBonne

Decided I'd read some of the forum and not contribute, recollect my thoughts and try come back on a more balanced note.

Today is obviously a major, major disappointment and very little positives to take from the game. I think the best thing about today was that we clearly have a decent player in Enciso, worked his socks off and really positive in trying to make things happen - reminded me of Chaplin in a way.

But I digress that we cannot give up on this now. People saying we're relegated already ffs...I heard shouts of that before when we went 4pts adrift (I think before the Wolves game), yet we're still in touch.

I put a post on here not long ago about the fact that, above all else, at least we're stable. Reading some of the sh*t on here since FT you wouldn't believe that - seriously people, we are not dead yet, Philogene for example is not 'crap' as I've seen, we are not 'fcking sht' as someone titled their post earlier...we just didn't do enough to win the game today and Saints took the two measly chances that we gifted them. That's football sometimes.

'I can't realistically see us getting points until April'...I could've told you that I realistically couldn't have seen us getting any against Spurs or Chelsea either and alas. There are going to be games where we turn up, the opposition have a bad day, and we're going to need to take advantage of that.

There are real concerns yes but throwing out names and calling out players who haven't even had 90 minutes in the shirt yet is out of order. We can't afford to give up on this group yet. The Wolves result was an even bigger sucker punch to a bad day - but we are still 3.5 (counting GD) points off of 17th place with plenty of football to play.

I hope we can go down to Coventry next week, have a good, positive day out and reset our morale ready for the run in. It's gonna be tough, but we need to stick together - 'follow the Town, up or down'.

Goodnight god bless!

Great post. I agree with all of it!

We're not done yet.

Writing this manager and these players off is foolish.

For me the concern is this is becoming a mirror image of Burnley last season. Trying their hardest, Kompany talking about learning from the mistake, working on the training ground and nobody is giving up.

But the defeats ate away at the players confidence, and from Feb they were just playing out the 90 minutes in each game, hopeful the opposition would make a mistake rather than them creating anything, simply wanting the season to end ASAP.

The squad doesn’t have the characteristics of last years. Many of them gone of don’t play.

This isn’t the ITFC of L1 or the Champ.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Some of the boys, I just can't seem to love them in the same way that I did last years for example.

Then again, I think that's to be expected. We've been spoiled with the individual aspect - the likes of Chaplin, Harry Clarke etc, great pros and more importantly great human beings. We also had the fairytale aspect of back to back promotions, so that weighs in a bit.

I guarantee though, if the new boys really put a fckin shift in to get us to 17th place come GW38, then we'll fall back in love all over again.

We are experiencing what countless other promoted teams have, the EPL is just incredibly tough.

Only caught the first 20mins or so of the first half as wasy busy. At times we looked positive but yes confidence is a big issue we need to find a way to move the ball quicker with one touches and then back ourselves. Broady really should have scored the chance I saw.

It really is a brutal league and we've got to be more clinical with the chances along with being more solid at the back.

I do think the constant changes in personnel is hurting us along with formation tweaks. Eventually you will run out of options and players lose faith as to whether they are backed as no.1 or not.

Since Chelsea we just seem to be chasing shadows, maybe other managers have identified our kryptonite and struggling to integrate new players.

Either way let's pick a steady team (barring injuries) and just go for it nothing to lose now.

I admire your optimism but seriously. We will finish at least 10 points adrfit of 4th bottom. Bookmark it come back in May. No team spirit and no fight. Sorry but a big re-build needed in summer which will involve taking a loss on many of the signings who have contributed virtually nothing all season. We changed too much have too many options all like for like, don't know our best 11 or formation.

Giving the worst prem side ever 44% of their points tally suggests we are are going down.

That said I leave my negativity here and give my support during the game but come on get real, we've jumped from L1 to prem, we never had a hope, gap is way too big as those last season who spent considerably less found out.

I have to admit, I'm struggling for the same reason. Delap aside, I don't have the same affinity with the new players.

Agree. I understand why they've done it - but it feels like we've ripped the soul out of the last 2 years and don't have anything to show for it.

You might be right, 100%. On paper it's a good suggestion. I hope you aren't though - that's the key bit.

To me being a football fan, especially in situations like this, the best part is not knowing and hoping for the best!

Therefore I'd personally rather not talk about the elephant in the room toooo much, not dwell on it, it's only a game etc...and have a fun February with 3 awaydays booked up

The team is ITFC.

Shouldn't we support the team regardless of the individual players selected?

Yes, but you can definitely have affinity for some groups more than others.

Think about Mick’s first couple of seasons here when we had rid ourselves of the Bullards, Taylors, Bowyers, Chopras etc.

The last couple of years had been wonderful and I think it’s normal to look back wistfully.

Of course you won’t, you have seen two back to back promotions and players celebrating with the fans around the town twice in two years so you are going to feel different to the new players but just remember how the players from last season have also really struggled this season.

This is a great point. The last 2 years we've had that squad unity etc.

We've got a lot of new players this year and are in a massively more difficult league.

The simple facts are, we let in too many and don't score enough.

The OP is right, it's not over, but something has to massively changed for us to stay up.

Good post. The problem is we are realistically relegated. We just played an awful team who looked nervous and didn't really create anything against them.

The best players we have cajuste, encise, Philips, delap, Tuanzebe and O'Shea will all be gone at the end of this season. What are we left with? Some of the team that got us promoted and some championship players that did not get promoted.

Completely agree.

I 100% understand the disappoint and in some instances anger. But some of it is just remarkably dramatic. There are people writing off signings who have barely featured. People questioning if McKenna has been found out. People suggesting we would have been better if we just stuck with the team we had last season. It is crazy.

What we are seeing is very simply just the reality of being a newly promoted Premier league team, In fact our situation is even tougher than that. We are a newly promoted premier league team, who never had parachute money, never had time establishing ourselves as a top championship side. We are quite clearly ahead of schedule, and when that is the case, there are going to be mistakes, on the pitch, in recruitment etc.

It is incredibly likely that we go down, it has been since we beat Huddersfield. But there are still loads of points to play for. Football is crazy sport sometimes. Sometimes you win the games that you never expected too. But as you say, what is the point giving up now. Where is the fun is that.
