Car Insurance 1st Central 17:09 - Feb 3 with 1625 viewsSamuelowen88

Anyone had any dealing with 1st central? They are coming up a lot cheaper than a lot of other places for car insurance but never heard of them.

Seems slightly iffy to be a lot cheaper than everyone else.

I was with them a few years back as they were miles cheaper.

Never had an issue but then never had an accident or claim, so literally paid the premium, got all the paperwork and that was that.

I have been with them for 3 years not had any issues. Although iv not had to claim at all with them.
They are about £250 cheaper a year than anywhere else on my 3series.

I'll echo other comments - I've used them when they were the cheapest, but have never had any interaction with them beyond paying my money and getting my certificate.

If you've not done so already, and have the time to do so, it's worth running the same quote through all four of the major comparison sites - the prices for exactly the same cover with the same firm can vary wildly between them.

You ain't a beauty but, hey, you're alright.

Check its not one of those "black box" policies where you have a device in your car that records your driving. Sod that, I speed everywhere in me Beemer.

"A+++++", "Great Comms, would recommend", "Thank you, the 12 inch black mamba is just perfect" - Ebay.

Reviews here don't look great - https://smartmoneypeople.com/1st-central-reviews/product/car-insurance?ratingFil

Trust pilot 4.5 - https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/1stcentralinsurance.com - However, I've tried to give a not good reviews on there and they didn't go through so I'm always a bit skeptical of trust pilot.

Until you have an accident, you won't really know how good they are.

My youngest daughter was with them. Had a dispute on whose fault it was after a minor prang. They dealt with it superbly.

Seem to be fine admin wise when I sorted my dad out with them. Also didn't wack the renewal price up either.

Thankfully not had a claim, so haven't seen them in action.

The insurance - First Central Underwriting Ltd - is based in Gibraltar, and subject to regulation from the Gibraltar Financial Services Commission, rather than the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) - which makes me a little uneasy.

This is obviously extremely dull, but also quite important, when considering why they're so much cheaper.

They are pretty good. Comparatively cheap in the segments they want to be. Financially stable, claims processes are good too, decent repair network.

For a standard retail policy for individuals (rather than commercial policies for businesses like taxis etc) they are fine and worth going with if premiums are reasonable. They do quite often discount for telematics (.black boxes or app tracking etc) so that’s worth being aware of.

Nope. But in case anyone’s got a Seat, I can’t find cheaper than Seat’s own finance/insurance arm. They won’t touch my other nicer car, but that’s their problem. But if you’ve got a Seat, it’s probably worth at least checking them out (and it was £40 cheaper this year than last and I’m only paying £320).

Check who actually provides the cover, there’s a range of “white label” names that offer cover from the same underwriter, often at the cost of poor service. Also, if reviews are bad avoid them, the reason for insurance is paying a claim, you really don’t want problems when you have to claim, whether that’s for a windscreen (some cover restricts who you can use to do the work) or a write off
