Yep. Completely agree. Think he would be perfect. Knows the club, was a terrific player here, has the bite and the technical ability we need in there. Would stabilise us.
Plus a great bloke. Remember when he spoke out about his mental health with Chambo when he had that period when he was trying too hard? Really respected that.

I think we are weakest centrally, the CDM area needs a more dynamic approach, canāt think of any other areas that is weaker tbh, strengthened everywhere else. | |

Heās point blank refused to play for them?
Even if he has, donāt know how wealthy/poor Soton are, but they may reckon itād be more costly to sell him to us than retain him unused if he were the difference between us staying up in place of themselves. |  |

Preface with a) know nothing of Phillips deal and b) know nothing concrete about loan rules.
But could a scenario unfold where we LOAN Downes and rescind the Phillips loan to make it work?
Realistically too many moving parts in a few hours, but made me wonder as it would tie everything up nicely - we wont need 6 CM's, we don't want to pay the fee they want, he doesnt want to play there and they don't want to carry a potentially disruptive player. [Post edited 3 Feb 19:28]

Weāve a very good player out on loan who in my opinion is better than Downes.
Iād be inclined to spend the money on another attacker and get by with the Six CM positions we have. When Humphreys returns in the summer, he returns a better player than the one that left. | | | |
