The original conviction and trial just looks more strange as time goes by, with a lot of weight placed on the opinion of a few people who seemingly don't know what they were talking about.
Whatever the outcome it must be horrendous for the parents of the children involved to have it dragged through the courts again, but obviously is the right thing to happen if it is needed. Either way I don't think the hospital or NHS will come out of this particularly well.

As a dad of two young kids and one who spent a decent amount of time in hospital, I can't imagine what the parents here are going through. You put your trust 100% in those nurses and doctors :(
However, if the hospital and senior consultants are to blame and finding a convenient scapegoat, there should be life sentences the other way.
Letby's case isn't helped of course in the public eye, as her case has been hijacked by the grifting far-right.

Really good that this was from an international panel.
Like many on here (previous threads) have been following the case but hadn’t seen this, so thanks for posting. Hope the truth & real justice are achieved.

Have the far-right hijacked her case? I'd not seen that. What is their angle?

People like Dan Wootton, Laurence Fox, the fake preacher etc have been going on for months that "their research" shows she is innocent. Now, they might now be right, but their not the expert panel you'd want on your side.
Dan Wootton who used to stalk people for nude photos in the Sun and was fired from GB News for being inappropriate. He's your advocate...
They appear to have spun it as the latest Government conspiracy since the trial and I'm sure it won't be long before it's all Starmer's fault.

I've never heard of the fake preacher, but the other two are certainly vile. It's certainly an odd case for them to attached themselves to.

Oh yeah, regardless of where we end up with her conviction the way the Trust management behaving is both appalling and depressingly predictable.
I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

Not unlike the Louise Woodward trial in the USA, a 3-episode documentary on which was rerun last night on C4 'The Killer Nanny: Did She Do It?'?
Before that, all the furores over ‘Shaken Baby Syndrome’ - still controversial and unproven as a theory. And before that, ‘cot deaths’ (medical causes now accepted). Didn’t stop innocent people (mostly women iirc) ending up in the dock accused of murder.
If doctors can’t agree on their various unproven theories, how/why on earth are justice systems still entrusting the futures of the accused to lay people?

It was noteworthy I think that the majority of nurses in Letby’s own hospital supported her, citing plenty of serious problems with that neo-natal ward in particular, including the crucial back-flow of water contaminated with faecal matter into the hand-washing basins (plumbers having been called in regularly over lengthy period).

It's a chance for them to stick a knife into the establishment.
When I first heard the headlines about the case I assumed they had colleagues witnessing the acts. The fact how they ruled out certain cases but pushed others purely based on data was fishy. Also if they were so certain of the conviction they should have allowed the defence to call medical experts. It certainly didn't meet the definition of a fair trial. It's hard to see how there can't now be a retrial and serious questions asked of the trust.
Yes, there is the evidence of her diary however that could quite easily be the result of a psychological breakdown after people made her believe she was at fault.

Just to reiterate out a couple of factual points -
The defence were allowed to put medical experts on the stand but (bafflingly) chose not to call them.
Letby’s diary writings were a direct result of sessions with a therapist telling her to explore all her reactions to what she was going through during the trial.

Her hand written notes were found by police when she was first arrested. Long before the trial. If you're going to present things as "factual" then they probably should be correct.

Hadn't been aware of any "hand written notes" separate from the diary.

Oh just the hand written notes on which she'd wrote "i killed them. I'm evil". Nothing of any importance.
Which were part of the writings that the therapy services had advised her to do, as I previously said. (Edit: - I may have got the timing wrong & it was pre-trial, but that she was advised to do as I said is on the record).
As per the documentary that I think we've both seen.

As one of the key pieces of evidence, that seems incredibly thin. I am not going to pretend I know enough about the case to have a definitive opinion, but their seems to be enough knowledgeable people questioning the verdict to justify the case being reviewed.

Certainly a seminal case in the British Justice system.
For justice's sake, I hope they can get this right. Nobody wins, though...

Hijacked by the far right, what do you mean by this ? ( genuine question, no needle intended ).
