It's so widely reported that it's a buyback I'm past that point, it's really about the amount. I reckon 30-35m.

Even if not we can accept other higher bids form other clubs. Clubs would rather pay a chunk more with us than have city buy him and have to mess about with them. And I think Delap will be able to get a good deal whoever he goes to and won't be that keen messing about with city and then sold on again.

But 'buybacks' can't force a player to go back can they? I assume? They can only force us to accept the agreed offer. If he has other offers on the table that we accept he has to turn them down? Seems a bit dodgy legally.

However, Delap's agent will be relishing two transfer fees, let's hope he's got a different rep to Philogene.

All comes down to the contract. https://www.fourfourtwo.com/features/what-are-buy-back-clauses-transfers This (and other sources) would suggest it'll be in Delaps contract too, so he'll have gone into it eyes open.

United want Delap on 10:06 - Feb 8 with 3112 views | Clutch | Ashton isn't stupid, any fee will be high regardless. He will know if City ever wanted him back it would mean he has exceeded expectations and scored a fair bit in the top league in the world - so it would have been based on that, not on what we paid. The MEN stuff isn't drivel is it - it's their chief football writer (like someone there saying Stuart Watson is drivel). It's not new either, they've been consistent since before we signed him. https://www.teamtalk.com/manchester-city/citizens-lurking-quickly-re-sign-academ Why is there such resistance on here to a club renowned for using buyback clauses having insisted on a buyback clause?

Plus potentially Delap will lose a bigger signing on fee if he’s forced to join Manchester City for a fixed lower bid.

I'm not 100% sure on the accuracy of the sports reporting to be honest but I know with absolute definite info that their general news reporting is a load of old cr4p. Where does that link mention the details of the buyback clause? I'm not saying their isn't a buy back clause, I just haven't seen a genuine report of what the clause is.

Unless City genuinely want him to play they might do better just profiting from the 20% sell-on clause. Buying him, not really playing him for 6/12 months before trying to sell him on doesn't necessarily benefit them or him.

Would be a surprise if there isn’t one but would be even more of a surprise if it’s at the level reported in a couple of places as being circa £30m. The fully loaded cost (ie including wages) of Delap over his contract with us is probably around that, assuming we pay £20m in fee with top ups. I reckon the buy back is significantly higher - say £40m and will only exist in exist in certain windows. If one of those windows isn’t the summer then we’ll sell him elsewhere. Then why are we arguing? I said I'm past the point of accepting their is a buyback clause, and the important bit is the money. I don't know either. I'm guessing 35m because that has mutual benefit for us and city, but I think we're in the same place? The amount is just speculation until confirmed.

Ditto What's the nuts and bolts of the clause. Edit; It doesn't matter if there is a clause or not, it's just the amount - and I would suggest that only the two team know this information. [Post edited 8 Feb 10:40]

You're arguing with no-one, this whole thread accepts we don't know the amount - I've literally just had a guess.

United want Delap on 10:51 - Feb 8 with 2617 views | Swansea_Blue | Financially, that could be the best outcome for us. They seem hopeless in their recruitment and I can easily see them offering £70M for him. I’m not saying he’s worth that, more that Utd are a basket case.

How enforceable would that be if the player really didn't want to go? It isn't slavery, after all. Yes, there would likely be financial penalties, but the player or hiring club ought to be able to buy out the relevant clause.
