Like any business that is failing 08:35 - Feb 27 with 10683 viewsmuccletonjoe

The Americans at gamechanger will not continue to bankroll a team that is failing.
Revenue will take a hit next year along with the clubs profile. It is pretty obvious they will be looking at McKenna , even though he has been the main reason behind our success to date.
I can't see too many bigger clubs knocking at the door like last summer, the questions will be asked about recruitment and the tactics employed. While it would have been a remarkable feat to stay in Premier league, if our form continues in the championship, things need to change pretty quickly. We know the fall can be quicker than the rise in football.

This is part of it. Then there is the current valuation of the club, and significant assets. Sure, some player value may have reduced, but many have increased - some by massive amounts e.g. Leif.

Others may take years to appreciate, because we've invested in young players with potential. We're also not planning to sell these quickly - they are our foundations for the future (both playing and trading). Their contract lengths ensure we play well within FFP.

By my calculations IF we are in the Championship next year, then we will be able to spend funds an order of magnitude greater than last year, whilst adhering to FFP rules.

All of this supports the view that we are a sound financial investment for the owners, and a likely a couple of years ahead of schedule.

Beyond sound - we are likely one of the top performing assets in their portfolio.

They have 5x'd their money in 3.5 years. And if by some miracle we stay up that’s closer to 8x.

By selling a chunk to Brightpath at the £250m valuation they’ve actually already realised a serious chunk of it too, so it’s not just in unrealised paper gains we’re talking about either. It’s been a cracking investment for them whichever way you look at it.

My guess would be they’re around another 5 years give or take and I’d have a cheeky fiver on the fact they get planning permission etc for the new Cobbold but don’t actually break ground themselves.

Indeed. I wish my business matters and finances were “failing” that much!

Poll: Do you think Pert is key to all of this?

It's almost as if the original poster is projecting onto our owners what they think should be happening rather than engaging with reality

It’s pure speculation with a clickbait headline. None of those assertions are known. We don’t even know if revenue will take a hit next year because there’s still a chance we’ll stay up, even if that chance is shrinking.

We’ll see. I’m sure all our investors would much rather we stay up, but if we’re relegated that doesn’t necessarily put the whole business model at risk. We’ll be in a lot better position to challenge at the top end of the Championship, as the last few years have shown. The 3 relegated teams in the Championship are miles ahead again this year.

This can only be written by someone who doesn't follow, or get, the project Gamechanger has bought into. Their business plan didn't have us in the EPL this season, and a good business doesn't get bent out of shape due to an unexpected blip (up or down).

Unlike some of our fans, the owners and management are not snowflakes...

Absolutely, long contracts help with FFP. But these contracts have to be paid, year after year, obviously.

So without knowing the wage bill is, it is difficult to know if we can still invest if we go down as you suggest... or whether we will need to sell to take wages off the books, plus to help pay for the wages of the new players (even with reductions for relegation).

I'd agree that it surely should be fine next year.

My bigger concern is the total rebuild that will be required in midfield.

Seeing how bad the current midfield is. I don't have too many worries about replacing it with something better

Midfield doesn't need that much

We know morsy can cope with the champ
We just need 3 others imo. Taylor maybe one of them. As could Humphreys be.

We could be in for downes again perhaps.

Still annoyed we didn't go for tanaka he'd have been helpful.

Who was that other midfielder We were linked with Hamer?

a niche perspective

Think there were a few others but Hamer was I think a rumour that didn’t have much in it. We were after the defender instead.

Not sure if time is catching up with Morsy. I reckon we’ll need 2 new players.

I also don’t think FFP will be much of an obstacle should the owners choose to invest again.
