Can't complain about the effort and endeavour yesterday, we were just beaten (again) by a more physically powerful team.

In League 1 we had possession, neat on the ground football and used skill rather than muscle, that confidence and method see us through the Championship. In the Premier League our possession has dropped off, certainly in the areas where we can hurt teams. Much of that is down to strength and size - my Dad always says a good big 'un will beat a good small 'un ninety percent of the time.

Yeah, but the championship all stars will be awesome next season!
Personally,I'd have liked us to have got in 1 or 2 more grizzled pros with top flight experience, but what do I know?

We don't appear to have a backbone anymore,Morsy was key to that. For all the Phillips this,Cajuste that, I don't think either add the drive and the drag people up by their collars element to their game that Morsy has/did have.

McKenna's obsession with "British academy players" has killed us. They're by and large crap in the Prem hence every single line up we face is 75% overseas pretty much.

You also end up paying £62m for Hutch, Philogene & J.Clarke instead of £12.5m for a Sarr.

Its not about backbone.

Its the same at all levels of football. The difference between levels is often that the skills are only slightly increased, but the physicality and athleticism are increased too.

Prem teams often have players with the ability of Billy, Clarke, Enciso, Chappers etc but who are 6 foot plus and can cover 100m in under 11 seconds. We look at the likes of clarke etc. If they were bigger and stronger and quicker, they would not have been available to us. But it is a gap we are going to have to bridge.

My main concern is we gained 200 points in two years by being a close knit group and they were mates. No "Jaden" on the back of shirts.

We've ripped up that team spirit by buying crap players with little spine about them.

That’s a great take , added to the original post points that just about sums us up , a great effort / attempt by all but it’s been a bridge too far this season , and yes I know we’re not down yet but the fat lady is certainly clearing her throat !

Let’s get behind them and see this out …..once a blue always a BLUE.

Pure conjecture.

The various segments released on TownTV would suggest the opposite.

Sarr signed for a team with 12 years in the PL and the corresponding squad quality around him.

The quality of player for that price simply isn't going to come to us so comparing the prices doesn't make sense.

We wanted Buendia and Ioaniddis but they didn't want to come. Can only sign people who want to come here

Philips was very good yesterday, Cajuste wasn't far behind, and we more than held our own in midfield against a physical Palace team. Had they both been up to speed earlier, I think it might have made all the difference.

But our Achilles heel all season has been the attacking players behind the Delap which means that we just don't create enough chances.

And one very annoying thing is the reluctance of our players out wide to put in crosses. Hutchinson yesterday had a great chance to do it but delayed, ended up being forced back and eventually put in a cross from much further out and with Palace having had the chance to set up properly to defend.

I never said Sarr would come here. I said there are £12.5m Sarrs out there.

The recruitment has been limp, lazy and pathetic. I have no clue which football club we tried to emulate by spending more than £130m on British Championship players.

Goals from midfield or assists only really come if we have much more of an attacking threat and get into the box more.

Have you thought of following a different sport mate? Only football doesn't seem to bring you any joy whatsoever.

Only half the issue IMO.

We had loads of physicality in the Championship, as an aside; fans of opposing teams hated us for it. They weren't powerful.by PL standards though and our attacking reinforcements are largely weak, with the exception of the powerhouse up top.

Something that is talked about much less is how imprecise we are with the majority of our attacking play, compared to other teams at this level. Balls played behind teammates, left too short, hitting the defender, the wrong passes altogether, insufficient skill to deceive the defender, soft or wayward crosses.. sure we're muscled off it plenty too, but we also lack the attacking quality right now to make and take chances in the limited space and time that is afforded to you in this league.
