Where has it all gone? 15:58 - Mar 15 with 2067 viewsmattyboar

Been speaking to friends about this for weeks, but our team play, patterns, cohesion, understanding of roles has evaporated. They look like a team of strangers cobbled together at the local park who are “figuring it out as they play”.

We came up due to a brilliantly executed plan, with everyone on the same page, but that seems like years ago now. I hope these players can be moulded over the summer into a cohesive unit otherwise we’re going to struggle.

When Hurst and Cook made wholesale changes to the squad, we saw how long it took to gel.

We tried to gel a new team, in the toughest new league.

I don’t know what our formation is and the players seem to be same
How ever it’s just the ruthlessness of other teams compared to us. We are so wasteful when we get up the pitch and any half chance this season, we have not done anything with - Hutchinson and Phillips showing that - when you are at the bottom things dont go your way and your ultimately punished. Is it a 3 nil scoreline in regards to possession or chances , no, but that’s been our season.

yes , but if we had stuck with what we had, plus a few additions, we wouldn't have done any better. We did need better players at this level so we had to take a chance.

The heart and soul of the team that got us here are either injured or rotting on the bench while multi-million pound charlatans are failing every week. Can only imagine how bad morale is.

Spot on. For everything McKenna has done great he has been too naive to think so many changes for apparent better players is worth more than keeping some of the nucleus of the squad together.

When the season comes to an end players like Broadhead are well entitled to look at the table and wonder why they played so little. Also such players will rightly think twice about wanting to be part of a championship team again in the knowledge that if we did go straight back up they'd be demoted to warming the bench again.

I miss that so much. Chaplin, Burns, those overlapping Davis runs. I do think the quality of opposition is a big factor this season as well as the level of player turnover. Hopefully McKenna can get that back over the summer. He’s still the man to take us forward and if he did it with last seasons squad he can do it with this one.

The flexibility of our formation has been one of our strengths the last to seasons.

McKenna is learning and has a long way to go. This is the first time we have seen him under this sort of pressure as he has been so successful until this year.

What a load of crappie you write EIEIO. Broadhead hasn't done enough to play regularly. Like most of the team he's upper Championship level.

So Philogene has done enough to constantly get in ahead of Broadhead? Fair play for thinking that, it's just a matter of opinion.

Said as much during the game. It doesn't help that the front four decided that they were going to try to do everything on their own today

We have spent good money but that's definitely a big factor, we essentially signed a new squad

Hopefully a fair portion of the younger ones stay and develop together

I think the keeper situation at the start of the season was a massive factor in our demise.
We'll never know how we ended up with Muric, but it's a fair argument to have by saying would we be in a better position had he got, say, Palmer from day one.
It takes time for some players to settle. Others like Cajuste look like naturals at this level.
I can't tell you our best XI so I doubt KM knows.
We need to forge links all over the pitch.
Too many new players, too many changes too quickly at this level.
I believe Ashton and KM thought we'd stay up with the squad we'd built. KM must take a look in the mirror, too.
Does he have a Plan B?
Finally.....I don't think it'll be easy to make an instant return to the top flight.
Delap will obv go. the central midfield needs an overhaul. I don't think Morsy can be a regular over 46 games next season.
And who are we sticking with at the back.
We need a strong spine. Without Delap, with the need for new blood in central midfield and questions over our centre halves, it'll take good planning and a decent transfer window in the summer.

All the experience on the bench yet again by McKenna. Brings them on at 80+mins. What's the bloody point man!

If Hirst doesn't slap.in a transfer request I'll ve surprised and I wouldn't blame him if he did.

McKenna is inexperienced at this level, and it shows.

We also spent a relative fortune on players from around the Playoff bracket in the Championship, from teams we were miles ahead of last season, and Burnley.

We didn’t have a chance.

1. Wholesale changes to squad (necessary) not always up to it. I have no doubt we tried to get better, but we weren't an attractive enough outfit to get those, nor do we have the dosh of some other clubs to pay for better.

2. Injuries.

3. McKenna's analytic software from Brighton that he no longer had access to once we became a rival team in the Prem. I think this might have been a huge factor - certainly far more so than most people have considered.

Davis reached his level last season great season for him,
He's way out of his depth at this level once again a no show forcat least two of there goals in the first half, he's useless, McK persevers when he has a good left back on the bench,

We will have a very good squad for next season, Delap money will mean a few more too, I don't think people truly understand the gulf between the Champ and the Prem, we're all hammering our players but the quality of the opposition on show is probably the best in world football.....once again, the three promoted clubs have gone straight back down, say no more...
