Luke Littler is nothing short of sensational….. 22:57 - Mar 20 with 1603 views | ITFC_Forever | I’m struggling to think of a youngster who has burst on the scene of their chosen sport and made such an impact so quickly? Wayne Rooney is the only one that springs to mind.

Luke Littler is nothing short of sensational….. on 23:33 - Mar 20 with 1462 views | Smoresy | There is one happening in football at the moment and it's Lamine Yamal. Big part of Spain's Euro 2024 victory, most assists in the tournament, 16 years old up until the final. Now he's top of the assists pile in La Liga, in with a good shout of banking the Spanish version of the quadruple before his 18th birthday. Pretty wild!
Luke Littler is nothing short of sensational….. on 23:55 - Mar 20 with 1408 views | ArnoldMoorhen | How about Boris Becker, who won Wimbledon at 17 years 227 days? Or Michael Chang won the French Open at 17 years 110 days? Amongst many female Tennis players, Tracy Austin won her first pro title at 14 years 1 month, and the US Open at 16 years and 9 months, beating both Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert. The greatest female teenage sporting performance was almost certainly by Nadia Comaneci, who at the age of 14, won Gold at the 1976 Montreal Olympics with the first ever perfect score of 10.0. She continued to dominate at major Championships over the next 4 years, all as a teenager, and in addition to 3 Golds, a Silver and a Bronze at Montreal, won 2 Golds and 2 Silvers at the 1980 Moscow Olympics. Probably the greatest male teenage sporting achievement ever was 19 year old Michael Phelps at the 2004 Athens Olympics: six Gold medals, two Bronze. He set his first World Record as a 15 year old. Or you could go for Ian Thorpe's first World Championship individual Gold aged 15 years and 3 months. He broke multiple World Records as a 17 year old. Leaving aside arguments about whether Darts deserves to be placed alongside these other, more physically demanding, sports, what is particularly impressive about Littler is that unlike, for example, Emma Raducanu, who won the US Open as an 18 year old, but has struggled to win tournaments since, Littler followed up his initial run to the World Championship Final with a hugely successful year of major titles, culminating in winning the World Championship, before continuing that winning form. As such, I would argue that amongst Male teenagers, it is only Phelps or Thorpe's records that are superior, of sports champions that I am aware of! [Post edited 21 Mar 0:06]

Darts isn't physically demanding but it's easy to under play the mental side of the game Littler seems really switched on and seems incredibly calm and sensible which I think is a massively underrated part of his game Yes he seems to have some scary natural talent and the ability to hit big scores continually at a pace and without much waivering is a quality very few players around the world are able to live with but underneath that, he seems to have that natural instinct to win which is rare in someone so young We have these stars in darts who have been at this level and often world champs have looked unbeatable for a few years The test for him against someone like Taylor is how long he can keep it up I think the level is being upped and the next batch of players coming through look very good indeed so it probably won't be an easy feat to pull off I've got to be honest, I don't understand swimming, they're aren't really any direct parallels to it It's not like Usain Bolt can also compete in skipping, running backwards and hopping which he may well also still be the fastest at That doesn't take away their achievements by any means [Post edited 21 Mar 0:25]

Nothing is going to displace the big core sports over there but it must be a massive growth market They're trying to push Cricket over there because the Asian ex-pats could carry it on their own, I think a guy from Microsoft is involved in one of their MLC Franchises Could the same happen for Darts, it probably has less Home Nations ex-pats who could develop the culture over there in a similar way but it's a simple game and you do sometimes see darts boards in US bars, it's not impossible I guess?

Yes, Pele absolutely. Can't believe it took this many posts, on a football website, before someone mentioned him!

In women's tennis, the top players tend to break on the scene earlier I think it might have been Martina Hingis who burst on the scene at about 16 and started to win most things but was done by her early 20's, it's a strange world Things like gymnastics and skateboarding often see very young competitors at the top of tree [Post edited 21 Mar 7:36]

I watch a lot of Barcelona games and Lamine Yamal is one of the most exciting players I've seen. Pau Curbarsi at centre back is also another ridiculous talent. It's like someone spliced together genes from all the great centre backs, added a bit of Pirlo passing in for good measure and created a player.
