Is placing their paper bags, boxes and buckets in random places by the side of country roads part of these tactics?

Presumably its job is to get you to buy their products, not hate them. Part of the fallacy of any publicity is good publicity that marketers and political grifters cling to to justify their existence.

Not all advertising is to get you to buy products (initially). Some is just brand awareness, which over time breeds trust.

A thread on a football messageboard (or anywhere) is success, because even if it makes you (personally) hate them, the brand is still spreading to people who won't. And very few people really hate brands because of their adverts. I hate the Go Compare ads but I've still used their service since I've been aware of it.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

The year Red Bull launched they had a big stand at Earls Court Ideal Home Show and I was demonstrating electric window cleaners there. Demo jobs were quite a buzz but you burnt out quick and IDH was 26 days back then.........

........Red Bull were making a splash and they were recruiting people at £150 a day (1994) just to spend a few weeks in a seaside town and drive up and down the seafront in a Red Bull logo car.

Needless to say, I didn't get the gig!

In a strange way yes, not that that's in a positive light either

Their Instagram feed is all a bit bizarre as well but it seems to get interactions

Alcohol is the answer but I can't remember the question!

I'm surprised KFC haven't gone for Cricket in the UK, they're massive for it in Australia, they literally sponsor the Big Bash and fans wear KFC buckets on their heads, they hand out buckets where the logos are upside down for the bucket and in Aussie yellow and green

Perhaps they view Cricket too middle class in the UK but in Australia, they clearly feel it's for the masses which may well be true

When KP snacks got behind the Hundred, I expected a fast food brand to get involved but it hasn't happened yet seemingly

Haha, not sure I know those ones. No, nothing to do with me!

The pepto bismol one has a dance routine where they describe what it treats ... ending with diarrhoea complete with actions. The only thing missing is projectile vomiting!

The Giff Gaff ad is the one that makes me want to put my foot through the telly at the minute.

I'm surprised that Sitters hasn't got a mention on a thread about Fast Food and Buckets!

One of the top 10 All-Time threads: kind of like the "Wagatha Christie" case of TWTD and a fantastic supportive response for the (then) youngster.

I think the idea is that people who enjoy KFC have a kind of cult-ish devotion to it.

I like it, because it's different. As someone else said, it's worked because it's caused a free thread on a football messageboard. There will be similar discussions all over the internet (and IRL).

Feck knows how the creative team got the client to sign off on something so bonkers, most clients play it safe (which is why most advertising is bland, boring and unoriginal).

I despise advertising.
