Doesn’t stand up to adversity wry well does it. Reckon you could hear a paper aeroplane land on that turf right now.

Trailing vapour since 1999.

The thing that annoys me about Scotland fans is that they live off being the 'best fans in the world' when they get to a tournament. It's all a bit forced and pre-planned and the media lap it up.
Which is why I love them being shyte and whinging at their own team.

Considering the population of Scotland and decades of being sh1te, their fans deserve credit for turning up. It's been at least 40 years since the days they could compete with England and their fans were the best in the world. Wembley is hardly a cauldron of noise these days.

Yup, totally out of order......if you don't think so go to Glasgow or anywhere in Scotland and call them Sweaties on a night out.

Apologies. Point taken. I'm slightly uneasy that all nicknames for all nationalities (as distinct from races) are taboo now. I'm utterly unfussed about being called a pom, for example, but I do respect your view so I'll edit.

edit: I just saw you called me a gammon further down which, as anyone who knows me will tell you I'm pretty damned far from being, but it gave me a laugh, so please don't edit that out on my behalf!

Nah, I'm sick of Scots being abused......having accents mimiced, national dress abused, our food and drink and people think it's cool to call us "sweaty"...any other country or nationality treated like this and the cops would turn up and pretend lefties would be up in arms

Sorry but I disagree with you. There is nothing wrong with a bit of light hearted banter, it's what makes the world go round.

Point of order - I have spent my two posts this morning sticking up for left wingers and I haven't cleared all my emails yet.

I think I've turned into a lazy communist

I agree, but hitting the abuse button causes poor Phil a lot of aggro.

Think it's pretty embarrassing and cringeworthy to have casual racism on the site in this day and age - the thread title ought to be changed.

I've ran bars and restaurants my whole life......imagine someone in a busy place you don't know calling you sweaty in front of people who don't know anything about the history of the Scottish slur. It's horrendous.

Are you in Scotland?

I have ended up in Edinburgh two or three times of late and thought it was great, especially a bar called Teuchters, very pleasant indeed.

As for our conversation, I think it depends on the context.

I live in Ipswich, though born and bred in Lanarkshire with a very west coast accent.

I guess if you aren't Scottish it may depend on context but if you are it's just somone in public calling you sweaty because you're Scottish. It's totally out of order.

Sweaty!....it's just never complimentary.

Edinburgh is great but try calling the barstaff and bouncers sweaty and your night is over.

Ah.

I wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the accents.

I remember visiting Edinburgh and Glasgow in quick succession in the 90's and very much preferred Glasgow***.....mainly because it was a sh1t hole and also because Edinburgh was full of w4nkers (to be fair, the festival was on)

Seeing as you are a pub and bar man my watering whole of choice in Glasgow
was Maxwells.

….you do know that it’s rhyming slang don’t you?

It’s not an insult that is actually claiming that jocks are particularly sweaty.

I’m pretty certain they are no sweatier than any other members of the United Kingdom.

In fact, my money would be on the Welsh being the sweatiest.

'The jocks' is a racist slur.
