You couldn't make this up.
The planning for the recent bombing of the Houtis in Yemen by the USA was given to a journalist as it happened.
Jeffrey Goldberg, editor of the Atlantic Magazine was included in a Group Text discussion by top Trump Officials - Hegseth, Miller, Vance. Waltz etc.
It was a mistake to do so and Goldberg thought it was a spoof or a trap by an organization that was trying to embarass the Atlantic.
It wasn't and he realised it was real when the bombs started dropping.
The incompetence of the Trump administration is now beyond a joke.
There are many videos covering it - Times Radio but this is a good one

Their incompetence is staggering. Part of the problem of throwing procedures and processes in the bin is that unless you understand how they came about, you are going to come a cropper. They don’t give a monkeys though.

They’re not friends of ours. That latest screw up is just added confirmation how much they loathe Europe, including this country. Time for Starmer to recognise that bending his rear end in the air isn’t going to work.

Despite balanced trade, they have already imposed tariffs on this country and will impose a lot more, tried to insult Starmer into an argument in the Oval Office (Vance), abused G7 people, ignored Europe regarding stealing from Ukraine while betraying them, sidled up to Putin with not a hint of criticism on any actions yet dished out insult after insult to former allies who they detest.

Does anyone seriously think America would step up if NATO Article 5 was invoked? Of course they wouldn’t. Not a snowballs chance unless there was a way they could extort for themselves.

They won’t stop. Sir Kier going mute on people like Canada who are under threat because you are afraid of consequences to the U.K. just isn’t going to work.

To be honest as much as I detest Trump and his administration for their sheer evilness and dishonesty, it’s actually their stupidity that troubles me most. They seem ok with deliberately harming people but the potential for what they might do by accident is infinite harm.

Good summary from the Guardian.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2025/mar/25/stunning-signal-leak-reveals-depth

Time for the government to realise that the US is just as big an enemy as Russia. Not militarily, but economically. Their historical hatreds of this country will spew out over the next few years and Trumps people will do everything to extort it - they’ve already started with tariffs (punitive ones to be announced 2 April) and verbal humiliation.

My inclination is always to hit back or get in first, but thanks to decades of neglect of everything and misplaced trust we cannot. But we can plan for the future in concert with trusted people that share our interests and start working towards being able to protect our interests - the long game. Is there political will in this country? Time will tell.

They’re like the Johnson ministry. Utterly incompetent and unfit for office, and that’s what costs lives.

No, of course. But he was taking breaks to finish a personal writing project when we entered the worst pandemic in a century. He was a self-serving fraud and completely unsuited to be in power - that’s the analogy.

JD Vance texted that he "hates bailing out Europeans" and Hegseth replies with "I fully agree with your loathing for European Free-loading".

They seem to have a strong prejudice against the UK and the EU but no criticism of Russia.

There has definitely been a shift in US Foreign Policy, although it still seems to me that Trump is making it up as he goes along.

I think the UK has to see the USA as an unreliable ally and be careful what intelligence we share with them.

Perhaps we could share some 'plans' with Trump and see if Russia then reacts. That will confirm that the USA is in bed with Russia.

Our intelligence services are heavily embedded with the US’, as is things servicing of nuclear warheads. You cannot change that overnight.

Our aim should be to rid ourselves of authoritarian America by the end of the decade, including removal of all US military from this country. But you don’t tell them. You start with intelligence. You invest in it heavily, carry on with sharing with the US, but as capability increases, feed them ever less valuable stuff until they are receiving only useless, out of date misinformation. We did this with turned spies and all sorts of other methods in WW2. It works.

The next is nuclear deterrent. We need to develop a response so threatening we will be left alone. Sufficient to devastate US and Russia key places. Air launch, submarine, artillery. We have a nuclear industry and have operated these evil weapons systems before. It is do-able.

In terms of other military, Russia/Ukraine has changed how war is fought. When surrender and subjugation is imposed by US Russia, spirit out creative Ukrainian people and families (new identities, citizenship if necessary) who are responsible for producing and operating these game changing systems. It’s no different to what America did with the Germans after WW2.

Lastly, put serious effort into rebuilding our armed forces. I’d even consider conscription/basic training for people in the way Poland are doing it.

We don’t need to confirm US is in bed with Russia. That’s as clear as Boris Johnson’s liking for cheese from the fridge.

It’s very clear now that the US will never honour A5, they are going as far as threatening two NATO countries with being annexed/invaded! They have gone completely rogue and need to be treated as such!
Just one thing our warheads are not serviced by the US we are however part of a shared stockpile of missiles. Now if we were just to have a ‘look’ at a trident missile and make our own?

I'm pretty sure that the main reason that racist and incompetent criminal Boris was so behind Urkraine because of his tanking popularity here. If he was was still as inexplicably popular as he was pre-covid he'd have offered a lot of waffle and not a lot else.
Every time a fresh scandal arose he suddenly had to jet off to Kyiv.

My understanding is that our missiles come from the same stockpile (where they are serviced) as the US. They are just exchanged out as a matter of routine.

Yes, make our own. We have the capability - that is what I was alluding to.

Yep you are correct on the missiles but the warheads are made and serviced by us😀
The boats get loaded with trident and then come back to Faslane to be mated with the warheads and then out on patrol.
Apparently the missiles have a 5 yr interval between servicing so if push did come to shove I’m sure we could do it with the will!

I know nothing about this, so you may well be right, but just to mention that when the US shut off military aid to Ukraine, their shiny new F16s started to fail inexplicably. How can any modern weapon which is dependent in any way on the Americans be trusted in a war the US disapproves of?

The warheads are actually the difficult bit.

It doesn’t matter what it is, whether an IED or something like the above, making it go bang is the hard part.

It is much more serious than US contempt; hatred of the U.K. and Europe. This could have led to the deaths of not just Houthis. I’ve not seen anything quite like it. Were they really that stupid as to use a channel in that way? They clearly do so all the time.

Is there a possibility that this leak is all staged as a means for the administration to “accidentally” emphasise to the Europeans just how frustrated they are with Europes’s level of military expenditure. Just one more way to up the pressure on Europe and their allies.

I wouldn’t put it past them, though perhaps such planning might be beyond their competence.

So apparently it’s ok because it’s their first minor glitch in a whole two months. That may even convincing if Trump hadn’t been facing 31 counts of ‘Willful retention of national defense information’ previously, which were conveniently withdrawn when he became president elect. Oh, and he was FCO g charges of lying about it, concealing and refusing to release documents and obstructing an investigation.

The guy invited into the call who performed the ‘attack’ is a sleazeball working for a failing publication. The attack is because he’s had the greatest first two months of any president ever.

Relentless rambling BS. He’s had three months of this term. There’s 45 to go.

“We are cutting back on our tanks,” Ellwood told the PM at the Liaison Committee on 17 November 2021. “What is amassing on the Ukrainian border? It’s tanks. But that’s besides the point. I’m saying step back, look at the wider security picture, look at our defence posture, and see what needs to be done.”

He added that in general “capabilities have been reduced”, pointing to cuts to tanks, aircraft and the removal of 10,000 troops.

Johnson dismissed his concerns and responded: “We have to recognise that the old concepts of fighting big tank battles on European land mass are over, and there are other, better things we should be investing in, in FCAS, in the future combat air system, in cyber, this is how warfare in the future is going to be.”

No, you probably didn’t, you were probably charmed by his hair and wiff waff.
