West Ham breaking the rules to sign Tevez and stay up would have annoyed me more had out not been the Blunts under Warnock who got relegated as a result.

Going to need West Ham style end to the season to stay up, and even then when might get screwed by a high points tally this season.

It would go down as my favourite season ever if we now went on a run just as West Ham go in to free-fall, and we beat them on the final day to stay up at their expense. It's on my birthday too. *Edit: I thought West Ham were on 30 points not 34. Looks like my dream won't come true. [Post edited 3 Apr 12:56]

Their form is pretty poor and their fixtures not especially kind. Definitely a wild longshore, but I wouldn't let the dream of us relegating West Ham at their place to save ourselves die just yet.

Win 6 of our next 8 games and we finish on 35 points, just have to bank on them losing all of theirs. 96th minute Kalvin Phillips winner would be sweet, their fans would love that. Not sure the walk back to the station after the game would be particularly pleasant in this scenario. [Post edited 3 Apr 14:17]

Stayed up with one game left to play And West Ham 06/07 were 10 points from safety with nine games left to play. Stayed up on the final day So it has been done!

Leicester immediately sprung to mind too and we are going to need to do something similar to have any chance you’d assume

If we win 6 of 8 we finish on 38! But to take it to the last day, it means 5 wins from 7, so likely need to be flawless against Wolves, Everton, Leicester and Brentofrd, whilst picking up a win from Chelsea, Arsenal and Newcastle. That could set us up for the final day at West Ham if they struggle against everyone bar Southampton.

All very encouraging but I suspect there were more teams hovering who were able to be sucked in than we have this year. We are literally looking at Wolves and nobody else.

Would it be the best escape from relegation from the top flight in history? on 15:15 - Apr 3 with 1316 views | Smoresy | Personal target is disbanding the Luton appreciation society that was attracting converts for a weird couple of weeks on here, as well as refuting the guy who keeps claiming that Leicester are our equal or better in "almost every metric". We're now 7 points from beating Luton's total last season, which would make us the most competitive promoted side of the past two seasons.

84/85 springs to mind. I think Cov were as good as down with about half a dozen games to go, but it got to the last game, and they played Everton, who were already champions. And because they were also FA Cup and Cup Winners Cup finalists, they didn't actually play this game until the end of May. This being before the days when all teams played the last games at the same time, this was a good couple of weeks after everyone else had finished. Coventry had to win, and because Everton were firmly ensconced on the beach by that point, they did so 3-1. So up stayed the mighty Sky Blues and instead down went.... Norwich. Tee hee.

plus the notorious draw with Bristol city, when Jimmy Hill got the Coventry kick off delayed by 20 minutes.

On the last day of the season in 1994 we were going down up until Mark Stein scored an injury time winner for Chelsea against Sheffield United. It meant the Blades replaced us in the bottom three, otherwise we were doomed on goal difference despite earning a decent draw at Blackburn. Oh pray that history somehow repeats itself.

Wolves are in decent form, even without Cunha they have been picking up points steadily & although we could beat them on Saturday to give us an outside chance, it would take a big turnaround in form for us to close the gap. West Ham & Everton are out of our reach. One win at Bournemouth doesn't mean we are about to go on a strong run, especially with some tough games coming up. We've even failed to beat Southampton & Leicester in 3 attempts.

It's unlikely but not impossible ... if we beat them on Saturday there's a small but undeniably increased chance of a great escape. A team like Wolves could have another dodgy patch even with Cunha. Their last four games are tough and might yield a meagre return. Take it to the last day and anything can happen.
