He probably knows it's very unlikely but he's just doing his job and not wasting energy on something he can't control.

Truly impaired.

McKenna staying or leaving is IMO the biggest variable in our chances next season. Not to say he's irreplaceable, but that would bring about a lot of change and uncertainty.

I'm relaxed on Delap, clearly a very good player and destined for greater heights than we'll be able to give him any time soon. Would've liked more dough for him but I'm resigned to him going and fine with it. Given an either / or I'd choose to keep McKenna no question.

Totally agree we really need him to stay. It's not just KMc but the whole coaching setup around him.

That's where I think it went badly wrong for Cook was having his mates as coaches really didn't work at all, plus KMc is on another planet tactically

I heard some shocking stories about Cook’s merry men. Completely different world to McKenna and his team and you’re quite right, it’s not just KM but it would mean huge changes beyond him.

As for Delap I hope he tears it up wherever he goes and has a great season. England could do with a bit of his fearless unpredictability in the final 3rd at the World Cup.

Delap reminds me of Shearer in some respects. Obviously a bit more technical etc as he’s a 2025 player but I think he’s a bit of throwback amongst his peers in a good way

Yeah I can see that. Scores all sorts of goals, physical, ‘old school’ #9. I hope that doesn’t get coached out of him at a big club, I like watching him because he’s a bit raw and fearless and shows no respect to anyone. Rooney was the same, not saying Delap is in his league as I don’t think he is or ever will be but he’s certainly got a bright future.

Delap reminds me of Cyrille Regis, running power, aggression, skill and shooting prowess.

Myself and a couple of others on here have said that he is the player most like Dalian Atkinson that we have had at Ipswich since he left.

Power, confidence, directness. He is a very special talent.

He is more of a wind up merchant than Dalian, though. And more likely to accidentally on purpose bump into people to provide them. Dare I say it? Maybe similar to Craig Bellamy in those regards.

The Delap situation is a funny one because sometimes a player is just so much better than the team that it’s just not possible to keep him.

We could’ve finished 13th this season and he’d still be way too good for us. And that’s no disrespect to us but he’s in the top 10 strikers in the league this season in my opinion. The best league in the world. And he’s young. And he’s going to have an England cap in the next 12 months.

He’s just too good for us plain and simple.

I wish him well

Yeah, he's done so well that even if we'd stayed up it would be very unlikely we'd keep him for another year. The disappointment is we aren't going to get his market value because of relegation but these things happen, if someone had said last summer we'll go down and double our money in Delap they'd not have believed you, most of our fans thought he was way overpriced.
