Based on what? I don’t disagree it’s wise to check carefully whenever a club starts to splash the cash beyond the norms, but you still need evidence.

Poll: Do you think Pert is key to all of this?

How are they making all that money, do they do a lot of corporate stuff?

Alcohol is the answer but I can't remember the question!

How could they possibly generate the same revenue as a parachute club without a lot of spurious sponsorship deals? Everybody would be doing it. They spent over 30m in League One. They're going boom for promotion.

Obviously I have no proof but it's certainly very fishy. I mean even squeaky clean mega club Man Cith have 115 charges against them.

You’d certainly want to check their accounts very carefully

You'd be advised to check the pressure of the match balls they use too.

They'd have to prove the deals are "market value", not overinflated. That has been a rule for some time.

If you check the wording, he doesn't say the same revenue as a parachute club. He's claiming the most revenue ever not including parachute clubs.

Previous inaction would suggest that if they can spend big enough to blast through the Championship in a single season, they'll get away with it scot free.

High risk/reward though, based on the punishment they may well receive if they fail, or are immediately relegated. All eyes on Leicester this summer.

They should have all the pressure of being dead certs to win the division whilst we can go under the radar being expected to finish behind them, Wrexham, Luton, Leicester and Southampton (as well as possibly Sheffield United too).

We are not going to go “under the radar” we are going to be the bookies favourite to go up and rightly so.

It makes little sense that they would be. Their revenue last season was very middling: £27.8m. Their average L1 attendance in this momentous season is 26.7K; they're no better supported than half of Championship clubs. Season ticket prices for 25/26 look average or below average. Their stadium doesn't double as an events venue.

If their revenue jumps north of £40m next season then something very curious will have happened, leave aside north of £70m (where parachute clubs will be).

Birminghams accounts for their 22/23 campaign was at a low level £19m, but their 23/24 (relegation) campaign jumped to £28m.

Gate receipts doubled (no surprise with ownership change, new project bounce), broadcasting remained relatively level but ‘other commercial income’ doubled from £6m to £12m in the 12 months, which seems a significant increase - with the club stating it had secured the highest front-of-shirt sponsor outside the Premier League.

Other commercial income is defined as ‘sponsorship income, corporate hospitality, merchandising etc’.

I would find it difficult to see how their top line revenue would match that of a Sunderland, who I think pushed to around near £40m in last accounts - but then again anything is possible with a bit of ‘commercial income’ support.

Will be interesting to see how their finances unfold in the coming years - and I suspect it could go very much one of two ways.
