441 miles 23:03 - Apr 29 with 1313 views | Sharkey | That’s the distance from Truro to Gateshead by road. If Gateshead don’t go up ( still in play-offs at the moment but with a crunch game against Southend on Saturday) , this National League fixture next season must smash all records for distance traveled for a league game in England. I must admit, I don’t know how long the 5th division has been national, but I wonder if any other country has five national leagues.

Funnily enough my mates and I were discussing this on Sunday and thinking what the longest league games round the world must be. I think a Russian one tops it, but I daresay Auckland to Perth in the A-League is a trek for Tommy Smith. Btw - can Gateshead even go up? Weren't they barred from competing in the playoffs last year as they weren't eligible for the EFL or something?

Their ground wasn't signed off as they hadn't secured a tenure from the council. They have that in place now.

Going to be very difficult as Truro not fully professional, heaven knows about these fixtures up North, heck Bristol is a 380 mile round trip for me and still in the South West. As for your question, no there is no other country that has a pyramid like there is in England. Germany, France, Spain, Italy it is all regionalised below steps 4, so at most these countries have 3 national leagues. On top of that their 2nd teams start entering their leagues at these regionalised leagues.

Nearer to home, Sweden (being long and thin) has some pretty brutal fixtures. Trelleborg to Umeå in the second division this season is only just under 800 miles, and they do go by coach.

Went to the Truro v St. Neots play off game for promotion to the NL South a few years ago. Was a good a weekend with a stopover in Newquay en route. Truro's best player was Barry Hayles who was a sub and not even on the pitch but talked their players through the game, a few of the locals had been on the Babychams and were excitable fellows and an added bonus was the clubhouse was knocking out pints for £1 as they wanted rid of it before the close season.

I quite like Truro I haven’t been there for a few years mind. My car windscreen got a massive crack driving down from Benters one year,so we had a pit stop to get it replaced in Truro. Next stop was The Lizard that’s a beautiful place.I was in a pub there and a few of the locals were arguing about the pub being named ‘The Witchball’ saying things like Witches don’t have balls etc 😂.

You would need a decent moped for that trip.
