Holiday destination/hotel recommendations 09:30 - May 1 with 2448 viewsartsbossbeard

Got a few couples going away together this year as we always do but we're looking for a new destination after visiting the same place for the last few years (even though this place is superb and would highly recommend).

Looking for:
*1wk All-Inc BUT with some nearby bars/restaurants/things to do so that we get out a fair bit.
*Stansted flights preferable
* 1st Week Sept, so still need it to be warm/hot
*around 3hrs or less flight time
* Budget circa 1k PP

Holiday me up, good people.

The insane prices once inside a Turkish airport tho!
£95 for a few soft drinks, sweets and crisps… I wish I was lying

Ah yes, the joys of Dalaman airport.

Even the McDonalds there (usually a bastion of fixed prices, wherever you go) needs a small mortgage.

You ain't a beauty but, hey, you're alright.

I lied actually, there were 3 beers included in that too. However, £95!!

If you enjoy the TUI Magic Life brand, then I'd highly recommend their site in Sarigerme. Beautiful resort, really laid-back vibe, and a short walk from Sarigerme town for the local amenities. Dalaman Town and Dalyan aren't too far away either, if you want a wider choice.

The airport is only about a 15min transfer and, with the relatively few Brits who head there, we've tended to be booked into a private taxi rather than being lumped on the usual huge coach.

We've done Sarigerme twice and absolutely loved it; particularly the distinct lack of the typical 'AI Brits Abroad' crowd (it was mainly German out there).

We're looking at perhaps doing another Magic Life this year - what was Calabria like? Is it a similar demographic to Sarigerme?

Brilliant, cheers for this.

Yeah, the Calabria site is ace. Would properly recommend.

Only issue is that it's kinda in the middle of nowhere, so no nearby bars/cafes etc with a taxi into Pizzo (which is beautiful) then the only local option if you wanna get out and about.

A lovely forest walk to the beach, tennis, 5-a-side, cycle rides into the hills, decent food, beach BBQ & a band with a distinct lack of fellow brits, which I very much enjoy. Also v close to the airport and you can view take offs/landings in the near distance from the beach bar.

….AI options, we rarely go with that.

In terms of resorts we like Port de Soller and Portals Nous. Both grown up relatively quiet places without the youngsters. PDS is more traditional with a traditional town up the road, PN is more “marina, posh boats” type place.

We also go to Cala D’Or quite often, that might have more AI places. Bigger town more “tourist” options, nice marina, far more bars, restaurants etc.

Most of the AI hotels In Mallorca are around Magaluf and Santa Ponca area

Kefalonia.
Lourdas or Sami although there are several other great villages on the island.
Great weather, fantastic eateries in both resorts and a few laid back bars.
For that budget, perhaps consider getting a largish villa with a view and a pool. Rented some stunning ones out there for three couples in the past.
Flights from Stansted.

We have no village green, or a shop. It's very, very quiet. I can walk to the pub.

Just back from Morocco, Marrakech,
TUI blue hotel, absolutely spotless and good food. Would recommend it, just make sure you don't get a Ryanair flight.

What's TUI Blue like generally?

We've shied away from it in the past as it seems to be one of their more Brit-focussed brands, and we've heard absolute horror stories about otherwise decent-looking Brit-populated resorts when we've been out and about on excursions, and got chatting with other holidaymakers.

We always go TUI Blue.

Most are all inclusive and adults only and any amount of drinks at any time. Bedrooms brilliant. The one we stayed at in Majorca last year had wine, water, tea, coffee, fruit and biscuits in the room and replaced every day. Pool towels supplied too.

Decent vibe?

I've done a few AIs that cater to the British crowd, and even the adult only ones seem to be capable of attracting those with the attitude of "well we've paid for this, so we may as well get our money's worth" when it comes to the drinks. Trying to avoid the sort of place where everyone's half cut by mid afternoon, and most days' entertainment includes at least one pool-side scuffle.

Somewhere nice on the Algarve would probably work for you - personally, I'd go with Alvor - 2-2.5 hour flight from Stansted to Faro plus an hour or so's transfer, very chill fishing village with great resturants and bars and lots locally to do and visit.
And in early september it'll running at temperatures around 25 degrees during the day.

Zante always works for me, Kalamaki in particular. There's plenty of all-inc hotels and a very pleasant and not very crowded beach if that's your bag. Lots and lots of very reasonably priced tavernas with excellent food and (unlike Laganas 4 miles up the road) no English pubs, nightclubs etc. Clientele is a mixture of British families and Germans mostly. Hire a car, head up into the hills and sample a bit of Greek country living. Go out on a boat trip and see if you can find the Loggerhead Turtles. Zante Town is a lovely little place to walk around, a fascinating mixture of old and new, rebuilt after the 1953 earthquake. And being Greece, if they were any more relaxed, they'd be horizontal.

15 minute transfer from Zante airport. Might be on the borderline for your flight duration but worth it.

As mentioned above though, avoid Laganas.

I stayed in Soller for a week a few years back, nice place. Quieter than the PDS but straight up into the mountains and an easy walk/easier tram to PDS.

Yeah, it's nice round there.

Then we drove round the island and encountered the coach trips on day release from their all inclusive places in Magaluf or wherever......

I’m in Morocco at the moment, I flew Ryanair and it was fine.

Currently in a small town called Souihia, my third place of stay. Drive to Marrakech tomorrow for three more nights.

First time in Morocco, I’ve quite enjoyed it but I’ve been very much off the beaten track. The first place I stayed for three nights was so remote it had no electricity.
