Assuming the world hasn’t ended by then 15:23 - May 7 with 2966 viewsIllinoisblue

Anyone here planning to attend World Cup 2026?

Bummed they don’t have Chicago as a venue but Atlanta and New York are easy direct flights, and Kansas is a doable 8-hour drive.

Regardless of which group/venues England are at, will be at a couple of games at least.

It works really well for us as a family as eldest doing a levels and youngest GCSE’s so we’re hoping to get over for a holiday and watch at least a game.

I've been to most cities and stadiums in the US with my NFL fandom and the host cities are SUCH a disappointment.

So there is no:
- Chicago (3rd biggest and the best summer city in the US) with huge INT airport and ample hotels
- Denver (Great city and "soccer" market)
- Nashville (Older stadium but walkable from entertainment)
- New Orleans (a lot of fun and now an updated Super dome after the super bowl)
- Vegas (brand new stadium and can walk to it from Casino's without going outside)

The final is at the one of the worst NFL stadiums in country and a complete pain to get to from Manhattan.

Two in Texas, which have nothing around the stadiums outside of huge freeways (Jerry World is in Arlington) . Then the Niners stadium in Santa Clara nowhere near San Francisco.

Unfortunately FIFA wanted a huge cut of profits and local governments like Chicago were never going to give them that, got too many teachers pensions to fund.

Atlanta will be good in terms of set up. Miami night games should be fun. SoFi is a hell of an arena but also a pain to get to and Inglewood isn't always the nicest area.

England will struggle in the heat if playing outside.

Agree totally, the U.S. venues are sheeeite. Could have been so much better. Always wanted to visit Vancouver, though, so that could be an option.

So disappointing! Even Foxborough is 30-40 miles from Boston.

Chicago by the lake in the summer is amazing, and a quick hop on the CTA down to Soldier Field, could do so much for a World Cup with that set up.

Instead we get to go to Buffalo Wild Wings outside the Cowboys stadium, take Southwest Airlines into San Jose or try and find a Hotel in Kansas!

RUBBISH

Seattle, Atlanta, Philly, Miami will be decent enough and Baltimore has a nice bit by the Harbor which is close to the stadium. Overall a big disappointment though.

I see Trumpy Wumpy is having a normal one about it and being totally welcoming and encouraging to people visiting the US.

I do wonder what will happen to those who can't use ESTA, which is a lot of Latin America, Africa and the Middle East. Considering it's an expanded field. Visitor visas can often take a while from places like Morocco and don't think they are doing an exempt thing for ticket holders. That won't affect most of the UEFA countries (if any).

I will be, hoping that England get to play at Atlanta as got friends there with a company box pitchside so would be perfect.

Loads of England fans for a 2005 friendly at Soldier Field. Was a good drinking day. Would have been so much better for an actual meaningful game. Or imagine England in the WC away at Vegas… Carnage!

Carnage isn't a word I'd use for that scenario. The apt word would be...

Clusterf**k

Ade Akinbiyi couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo...

I was at a conference in Vegas in March and you can walk through the Mandalay Bay right over Raiders Stadium, would have been decent.

I read into why Vegas didn't go for it, apparently wasn't so much FIFA but the pitch wasn't big enough. It would have been interesting to have a World Cup there for 3/4 weeks, it might ruin some people.

Chicago, Minneapolis and a few Canadian cities withdrew due to FIFA demands from what I saw.

I think social media vetting would prevent me from getting into the US while Trump is its dictator.

Also not a big fan of non-football countries hosting the World Cup. And the US only had it in 1994 so a bit much that they've got it again (albeit as co-hosts).

Went to USA 94 (Games in New Jersey and Boston) and tbh - it was pretty rubbish in lots of respects. Not impressed with another one there but then again can't be worse than the last two destinations.

Will be skipping it - but hope it proves to be fun for those who do go.

Certainly weren't set up for it in the 90s should be a bit better with the stadiums now at least but as mentioned a few key cities left out.

Not sure the heat will be that much of a factor now. Players are so fit and prepared that the playing conditions will be taken into account when planning for such games.

It suffered in 94 by comparison to Italia 90 which was awesome. Plus England never qualified - did I not like that.

Ah yes the famous Graham Taylor qualification!

Did you go to Sardinia for the groups? I watched a video diary by Keith Allen about Italia 90 (think it might be Lily Allen's uncle actually). What a tournament that must have been, way before my time.

The guy who made it was Martin Allen - Keith's younger brother. He was a nice guy - met up with him after the QF in Naples too.
