It probably highlights the strength in depth of the Premier League.
All of our representatives in the lesser European competitions this season could probably have had a decent run in the CL.
PSG/Inter/Bayern etc., may be better than the PL, but there is a significant drop-off below the top teams in their respective leagues. | |

That's not really true, especially in terms of trophy wins.
Spanish clubs have lifted more European trophies* (37) this century than teams from Europe’s four other major European leagues combined (29).
And it's not just Real Madrid and Barcelona, with Valencia, Seville, Atletico Madrid and Villarreal winning the Europa League this century. Indeed, Seville have won it seven times, and Atletico three times.
*This doesn't include the Micky Mouse Conference League which has only been running for four seasons, although Real Betis have reached this year's final. [Post edited 9 May 9:27]

I think the Champions League is less about the quality of the country's league than the Europa competitions. PSG are the best team I've seen this season but the French league is nowhere the best league.
However, as we've found this season the whole Premier League is so strong. If 17th in the Premier played 17th in any of the European leagues I reckon they'd win fairly comfortably. Hence why two of the worst teams in the division are in the Europa League final. | |

There’s always the elite but strength in depth is a different level. Throw a Fulham or Brentford in the top leagues around Europe and they’d be in the top 3-4 or quite often I think. |  | | |
