For the first time in far too many years 14:26 - May 22 with 1298 views | Keno | I just spent a few days pottering around Suffolk, mainly Clare/Lavenham and a day in Ipswich. I forgotten how bootiful the county is and also just how lovely and friendly the people are. Portman Road looks stunning and I didnt think the town was as back as I expected, although in fairness I didnt do the East end of it. Even got to see Kieron Dyer Suffolk is, and always will be, my home Once a blue, always a blue!!

Yer not gonna cover Haverhill in 3-4 days Ken. The Chalkstone Estate, Marcus Garvey Centre, the site where The Pimp once stood would take you at least that long. That still leaves you needing to visit the Blagden Chemicals Twin Towers. The 'Arts Centre', the drab and most importantly enjoy a Bennys Bar BQ saveloy an chips on the p1ssed stained steps of the Town Hall.. If you need a personal guide..
For the first time in far too many years on 14:48 - May 22 with 1139 views | Churchman | I thought you were Scottish. Are you sure you aren’t? I’m spending the first week of June at the Suffolk house with Mrs C to explore more of it. My dad always said that to him it was unique in that you can drive through a lot of the countryside and get a completely new view/scene/panorama/vista around every corner. It’s a stunning county. Ipswich itself? There are worse places. Most towns and cities have suffered in the past decades. Mrs C will want a morning shopping. No idea why beyond a nostalgia thing in that she used to do that with my mum when my dad and I went to the football a fair amount. She’ll be doing alone while I buy more rubbish from the club shop.

Long story short I'm Irish by birth but grew up in East Anglia. I got dragged down to the South Coast 40 odd years ago when my dad moved with work but its never been 'my home' You know that Bobby Robson quote "“It’s a small boy clambering up stadium steps for the very first time, gripping his father’s hand, gawping at that hallowed stretch of turf beneath him and, without being able to do a thing about it, falling in love.” Well I wasnt with my dad, first time at PR I was actually on my own, but that could be me. We beat Burnley 2-0 and remember it like it was yesterday Ipswich Town FC, my first and longest love, Ipswich my home

For the first time in far too many years on 15:34 - May 22 with 1023 views | Swansea_Blue | It’s a nice part of the world buh. It’s been far too long since I’ve had a bit of a potter around the old haunts. Clare and Lavenham are lovely. It’s been yonks since I’ve been to either, as we tend to head up the coast more. And Ipswich itself is a lot better than most people make out. It’s not as tidy as it was, but there are many towns across the UK that have declined a lot worse.

Irish? Haaa, alert! I knew you were a wrong un!!! 😃😂😅😀👍🏻 I rather like the south coast. Sussex, Hampshire, Dorset, Devon, Cornwall: all beautiful. I’ve actually lived in Kent for decades. It’s got some magnificent countryside and a lovely coast too and I’m happy here. But I’m never happier or more relaxed than when I’m in Suffolk. It feels mine. Daft really. Unlike my dads mob - all Suffolk, my mother and her family, going back to when the locals had the normal number of fingers came from Norfolk and most of that side of the family still do. While I’d never live there (it feels like the end of the world as we know it) I am comfortable there, despite loathing the football club from the first step into it at about nine years old. All in the mind I’m sure, thanks to a little knowledge of one’s own past. [Post edited 22 May 16:07]

Some of my best friends are Irish... (Sub Irish for black and that sounds really racist) ... but they are. First Irishman I met found me drunk/asleep on the pavement and told me to get up and I could crash on his floor. In the morning I woke up on the front room floor and it smelt of the dog that was licking my face. A generous heart, a 10-pint gut and a habit of being indecipherable after 5 pints but always good company.

Its a beautifull area and compares to Tuscany the stour valley in terms of beauty .... miss it so much i keep a crafty eye on Rightmove to see whats available ...... coming back this summer to fish all over clare/ glemsford / up towards Bury ..... may pop in and see Kieran too - see if he needs a 58 year old centre back who could probably do a better job

They are! The countryside in that part of the world is a bit bland, but I quite like thy city of Leicester itself.

The stour valley is such a nice spot. As others have said a day pottering around the footpaths and finding a coffee or beer around Clare, Melford, Nayland etc is always time well spent.
