I’m surprised it’s 5 years and not longer. There must have been some reasons for that. Likewise the banning order not being for life seems light too.

Does seem lenient. Wonder if Blackpool fans were looking for trouble at the designated away pub and some kind of “I feared for my safety and was defending myself” played into the what seems a light sentence.

The 'victim' was with a bunch of Blackpool thugs who turned up at the designated away pub to attack Burnley fans.

55 year old bloke. If he had gone there looking for trouble you'd think he'd be old enough to know better. I'm 55 and I really couldnt be arsed to go looking for trouble. Besides, I am out of shape and would get my ass kicked!

Not disimilar. I used to play 5-a-side with the brother of one of those convicted - just awful.

I didn't realise you were older than me!
You should be old enough to know better when posting on here (as should I, to be fair).

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

He went there in hunt of Burnley fans. Nobody should die of course, but his actions directly contributed to his own death.

Mad how many 'one punch' killings there have been in recent years. One outside of O'Neils in Blackheath springs to mind when I lived there.

My martial arts training (albeit ages ago) feels relevant. In potentially violent situations, it was escape first, if not then de-escalation, if not then disarmament/subdue. Hitting someone, in any form, was a last resort and never to the head. Was also the complication of being handed a worse sentence if you were a black belt too which made getting into those situations even more risky/silly.

Crazy how you can learn a self defence martial art but run the risk of a more severe sentence for defending yourself. Out of interest, what is your background in martial arts? Mine is ju-jitsu, but not competition based. Just street defence. Never had to use it to defend myself, hopefully never will. Like you say, escape first always the best option.

Karate. Long gone now though, been 15 years since I wore a Gi!

Considered BJJ but in London it's very £ and a bit cultish.

TWTD is my playground for acting silly. I have to be serious at work.
