If new are at the bottom, when you have more than a page's worth you won't be seeing them (with an initial glance - you'd have to click through the pages) and will potentially be missing something important.
Why would you make extra work for yourself (clicking through the pages) and risk missing important stuff just in? |  |

Same here. The Evening Star especially. Sport, situations vacant, TV schedules and then the news. The little cartoon strip 'Bunion' would be in there as well towards the back.
Think they moved the sports bit into the middle in later years as a separate sort of supplement, certainly on a Monday post weekend action. [Post edited 23 May 13:15]

I've always read from newest to oldest. Otherwise, I could be replying to emails someone else has already replied to. Also, people tend to forget info in their first email and then send a follow up, with the extra info or additional questions. |  | | |
