He excludes digital and other services from the figures to massage them. Add netflix, google etc and they look rather different. He pretends that uneven trade demonstrates unfairness. But has never demonstrated that. We dont buy US cars because they are shyte. He ignores his country's own sales taxes when talking about vat. etc etc He has an unelected fascist advising him. And bases foreign diplomacyy on youtube conspiracy videos. Nothing is surprising anymore. |
They have a chaotic system of state and local sales taxes that is say Colorado amounts to about 10%. But Trump ignores that. He tells his truth (lies) which becomes the truth. Telling him that VAT is applied on domestic as well as imported goods and services so waiving it just for the US would make no sense is totally beyond him. Then there’s the lies to dress up ‘facts’ to tell ‘the truth’. His whole concept and understanding of trade is less than the cat’s - and Cuthbert isn’t the sharpest. Global trade just doesn’t work the way he thinks it does and how it actually works has enriched the US beyond all other countries. He’s cutting the country’s throat. He will make most Americans poorer whilst telling them otherwise - more lies. It’s what authoritarians/dictators do. You are right. Americans don’t buy US made cars because they’re cr@p. I know, I’ve been in them, albeit a few years ago now. Protectionism will only make that worse

Americans don't buy US made vehicles? Hasn't the Ford F-150 been the best selling vehicle in the USofA every year for the last 40 years? Well until last year when the Toyota Rav4 finally knocked it into 2nd place?

Tickling Trump’s tummy enough to keep him happy whilst simultaneously doing more significant business with Europe. I’m not sure what else he can do. We shouldn’t have to account for the tantrums of a fascist wannabe dictator when choosing our own foreign policy, but we are where we are. Trump went too far when he attacked The Boss imo, calling him aged with atrophied skin lol. Springsteen looks in a damn site better nick than Trump does! |
I have said it for years (and I'll do my same jokes at the end) but I genuinely think that if the Democrats had chosen Bruce Springsteen instead of Hilary Clinton, he would have beaten Trump comfortably. The most Blue Collar of American rock stars, and a way bigger star than Trump was at the time. He could have finished every rally with a full band rendition of "Born to Run". And, unlike Obama, no possibility of the Republicans alleging that he wasn't "Born in the USA". The world would be a very different place.

My point was we dont buy their lousy vehicles which rarely suit our needs and preferences. Though of course, if Trump is complaining about imports, they clearly buy plenty of ours... [Post edited 24 May 10:04]

True, but that's predominantly because yank roads allow for much wider vehicles. Hence why Ford built the Fiesta, Focus, etc to sell in the UK, Europe and both were very successful, and producing a lot of income for the yanks. But I take you're point, vehicles built for the US market are cr@p for us and Trump is oblivious to the difference.

She is working, but really struggling with ever increasing food and utility bills but static income He was running scared of Press gang snatch-squads that were roaming the streets to forcibly gather in new recruits, just hiding indoors all day every day, never leaving the apartment. The donation of a heater helped them a lot.... genuinely, many thanks to all who donated She held big hopes for the Summer 24 Offensive that didn't amount to anything, medium hopes that Trump would be able to talk a bit of sense into Putin.... but now just the grim realisation that this conflict will continue for the foreseeable |
Thanks for the update. I wasn't expecting any fairytales but you can sort of forget that all the pressures of normal life continue in a time of war too. Let her know she and he and their families are in our thoughts.

If he tries that with us again, one simple answer for the British government. Increase the amount we charge on all of his USAF bases.

The Ford Focus Saloon was popular in the USA - the hatchback not so much - the Fiesta not at all. A Top Gear prog. had Clarkson driving a Humvee through a Cotswold town and it required him and the motorists he met to engage reverse gear way too often. A recipe for road rage which was obviously edited from the broadcast.

Lot’s of Hondas are manufactured in the US, do they count as Japanese still?

Trump will soon declare Honda and Toyota cars as alien insurgents and have them locked up in a car pound. If you think that's a daft idea then you haven't been paying attention since Jan 20th.
