Keir Starmer looked a desperate man this week 18:31 - May 30 with 14376 views | onceablue | Slagging off Nigel Farage Who are his PR Advisors? I would be telling him not to even mention Farage. An election is at least 4 years away he should be concentrating on his party and his policies. The speech he made at that factory is the sort of speech you make the week before an election Everytime he mentions Farage it just strengthens the Reform Leader’s position Reform is not the answer for this Country but Starmer is making this unlikely outcome a real possibility Even the press have started to take the mickey out of Starmer That

Keir Starmer looked a desperate man this week on 17:47 - Jun 2 by jasondozzell | They were ushered in as if it was 1997! The media was nervous because of the emperor's new clothes gig they'd been on so quickly got worried once it was clear it was going to be a disaster. But in the run up to the election Labour couldn't have hoped for a nicer media ride. Labour won the endorsement of Guardian, Sun, Sunday Times, Mirror, Financial Times, The Economist, The Observer. The Times didn't endorse anyone... Compare this to 2019 where you had The Observer erroneously suggesting voters vote Lib Dem tactically in seats they actually couldn't win... |
You're just repeating yourself without providing much in the way of evidence. You've also pivoted from the media being enthusiastic, which they weren't, to the media not giving them a hard time. That's a different point and given that the country desperately needed a change after 14 years of mismanagement, nobody other than the most rabid right wing rags were likely to go in two footed on Labour. And as I pointed out, in terms of readership, the press was split pretty evenly between Labour, Tories, and neutral.

It wasn't "hard left", it was a fairly moderate social democratic agenda by European standards. It's only on the skewed political compass in the UK that Labour's 2019 manifesto could be considered "hard left".

Saying "everyone knows it" when people here clearly disagree with you is a bit weird. I fear you've fallen into the left wing mirror image of the Reform/alt right social media bubble.

Was just making a point that if we had proportional representation, which I am not in favour of, the result would be so very different. It was the way the non Labour vote was split that lead to such a big, undeserved, Labour majority. Incidentally thought you were in favour of PR, I obviously got thst wrong.

Corbyn basically gave the media the rope to hang himself with his wacky sixth form worldview Absolute gold such as his response to Salisbury; ‘how do we know Russia was responsible for this Russian-made nerve agent, used on a Russian dissident?’. Not sure if the was hugely naive or just thick. Starmer’s utter blandness means he’s never had such brainf@rts.

You need to expand your reading. Read what he actually said about the attack and his history of criticism of Putin. Following rules based international order is a good starting point. Something Starmer hasn't done with Gaza. He really fried a lot of centrists brains didn't he.

I've never expressed a preference in any system. If my auntie had bowlocks she'd be my uncle. It's absolutely pointless to say what the result would've been under a different system. If it were a dictatorship we'd still have the Tories. We've had the same system for nearly 150 years. There was nothing undeserved about Labour's majority. It's a fact, so on what basis can it be undeserved? Besides, the discussion is actually whether Farage destroyed the Tories or not.

He said ‘let’s send the Russian’s the evidence and ask if they did it’….Vlad is of course well known for being open and honest… Jezza subsequently also said we shouldn’t provide weapons to Ukraine - his foreign policy is very close to Farage and Trump, albeit with different motivations. Quite happy to get paid to shill for Iran on their state TV also - so he’s hardly helped himself. It’s hardly a media assassination, when he’s like the drunk uncle at a family gathering that everyone is dreading what he’s going to say next..

Keir Starmer looked a desperate man this week on 17:18 - Jun 2 by Herbivore | Media support was pretty lukewarm and there was still a decent amount of support for the Tories in certain predictable quarters: https://pressgazette.co.uk/publishers/nationals/general-election-2024-press-endo It's not exactly news that there wasn't much enthusiasm for Starmer and the Tories very much gifted him a big win (in terms of seats). Plenty of traditional Labour voters stayed at home and the Greens also gained votes. I think if Reform had a realistic chance of winning a GE, you might see some folks hold their noses and vote Labour as the lesser of two evils. |
Do you have to hold your nose to vote Labour ? In the past I've voted for them but I did n't know about grasping your face.

It was an undeserved majority because only 22% of those able to vote and only 33% of those that did vote wanted Labour. If Starmer, his party and supporters do not learn from that they will not be there long. The first past the post system worked when we had, in effect only two parties. Now we have red, blue, green, purple, gold and tartan it fails completely to give a government that represents the opinions of the people.
