We got ourselves a new puppy a couple of weeks ago 09:15 - Jun 4 with 1262 viewsCheltenham_Blue

Golden Retriever to go with our 8 year old Goldie, figured end of the season, gives me til mid August to get him trained up etc.

I'd forgotten how much hard work they are, literally like dealing with a baby/toddler, but with sharper teeth, nails and runs a lot faster.

They're great fun though aren't they - we got a 4 month old red fox Labrador called Fern back in October 2022 and I've always grown up with family dogs and had a rescue dog of my own, but he was 3 when I got him so never had a puppy to train from scratch. I often say to my wife how it's the best money we've ever spent and she's a genuine joy, we love her to bits and treat her as our child basically.

All I would say is, I remember getting frustrated with her training and set backs in her routine, but kept telling myself that she'd get there eventually, she's 3 years old on 13th June and she's cracked it now and is like having a little best mate who's actually excited to see me everyday... what I imagined my wife would be basically haha!

Their age is a huge factor in their behaviour, and while you still need to be ultra strict with them to enforce the routine & rules, they mature into it. I'm sure you already know all this but just a reminder it does get easier and it's well worth the effort because in many cases, dogs are miles better than humans!!

We have a GR, aged 3.5 now… absolute easiest dog there has ever been. Couple of rough nights sleep to start with, but nothing too bad.
But she would literally sleep 24/7 given the chance.

So with this in mind we then got another, GSD puppy… the difference in the breed, just wow.

That said, as a puppy he was even easier. It’s just the last 4 months where he’s decided that ‘now I’m big I hate other dogs’ so having a bit of a difficult time training that out of him. At 38kg, and a gob full of teeth, it’s not a responsibility I take lightly.

We’ll be good again... one day

We've just got a red lab puppy. Named Wes after Wes Burns. He has calmed down a bit after a couple of crazy weeks.

We have a 10 month year old cockerpoo, literally the most adorable little cute thing ever. For a small dog is literally so intelligent. We had a black lab before who was super intelligent.
our cockerpoo is intelligent in differnt ways and she is a beaut of a dog.
A class addition to our family.

My hands have some scarring from the teeth of our 10 month old American Bulldog, Luka (we didn't name him), he likes to hold my hand... with his mouth.

Not only the teeth, nails and speed but also the fact that they'll eat anything and everything, he managed to knock a loaf of bread off the counter overnight and ate the lot, then was sick for 2 days... but it still hasn't deterred him, the amount of times I've had to pry open his jaws

But at least he doesn't crap indoors anymore

Looks a bit like this

And has white eye lashes

(Yes I know that's a female in the picture)

She’s a beauty. Sadly, the second GR we have had is 14 now and struggling a bit. But there’s no other breed I’d rather have.

My brother-in-law and family have just got one. As cute as hell and is making my daughter sick with jealousy (she’s been desperate for us to get a dog for years). I grew up with dogs and do miss a lot of what they bring, but they’re a bit of a tie. I can’t persuade my better half that what they bring > than any sacrifices you have to make. Kids are more of a tie and she was fine with them. Go figure.
