Doesn’t sound like an easy deal to get done, especially with the original story saying he wasn’t keen on the move.
Is it one we can get done to you think Phil? Feels to me he’s waiting for better offers and that we will miss out.

He’s very raw.

Wouldn’t be falling over ourselves to try and get anything done, especially if the player don’t have the appetite to be here.

You wrote that on another thread and it was countered by a Spanish based poster and a few others.

What are you basing "very raw" on?

I've not seen much of him so am interested to know, he's scored when he's played it seems and in reality we aren't going to be able to afford the finished produce so "raw" with large upside is probably where we are aiming.

Think they have restrictions in place and unable to register new players.

That's not completely correct. Today they signed Garcia from Espanyol and have made enquiries about Luis Diaz. They are having to get rid of players to sign new ones but they're not under any kind of transfer embargo.

It does sound like it'd be a hell of a coup if we pulled it off and it seems there's some wrangling over whether this would be a loan or a permanent deal if we could get it done. I wonder if it might end up being a loan with a commitment to buy if we go up, perhaps. In any case, a player of that calibre is going to have options, some of which will, on paper, be much more attractive than joining us in the Championship. It's going to be a tricky one to do.

You're using hindsight. These were seemingly difficult deals at the time.

In comparison to Guiu, I think they were easier to do than this guy.

Morsy was told he was surplus, and even if dropping a division was on his mind, he was going to a club with bags of cash and playing for a manager he had previous relationship and success with.

Not sure there was a huge demand for Phillips last summer given his stint at WH.

Happy to agree to disagree though.

I'm not saying it's impossible or that we shouldn't try, I doubt we'd keep trying if there was no interest but if it's a choice between a top European league and the Championship then I think most players would choose the former.

You're just repeating yourself in a slightly different way.
Many players would choose what they see as the long-term best pathway, including coaching if they're young, the vision (and plans actually happening) of the owners, and, of course, the money on offer.
To your point, the case could be put that Ipswich are only temporarily out of the best European league. The bookies have us favourites to bounce back as Champions.

All this is what they'll be talking about in the "ongoing talks". Just saying top European leagues v Championship is a bit too simplistic IMO.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Wasn't Delap 'raw'?

Didn't work out too badly did it.

I wasn't really comparing them, just highlighting that difficult deals do get done.

If you keep repeating this, it doesn't make it any more true. He's in no way "very raw" - it's nonsense. Players don't successfully come through the Masia and debut (and score)for Barça if they are not completely ready to hold their own at the top of La Liga. They don't either go on to debut in the Premier or score a hat-trick in a European competition. It's a bizarre take. He's young and consequently has limited experience but in no way "very raw".

The logical reason for any reticence in joining a Championship club is because after debuting and scoring for both Barça and Chelsea he probably has his sights set a lot higher, and understandably so.

Agree on this. He must be deliberating as on the one hand its dropping down to the second tier in England when his sights are set very high. If he goes t a big club, then as with Chelsea, he will be a bench warmer. On the other hand, he can look at what Mckenna has done with Delap and Htchinson, and see that he could come to a club that are hot favourites to win the Championship, he'd play every week, establish himself in the side as the main #9 in time for a real crack in the Premier League next season. So its long view vs short term view. We know what Omari chose.

They were. Morsy in particular was viewed as something of a coup. Plenty of Boro fans online were disappointed. IIRC he wouldn't have dropped a league for another manager.

But then he didn't play fantastically under Cook, McKenna came in and the rest is history.

Would be absolutely shocked if it was permeant deal as a Championship club.

I expect the striker search to drag on all summer… we then end up with Hirst and AAH going into the season.

Surely no chance AAH plays for us again, something has gone wrong if he does tbh with our current financials.
