Tuchel - get rid on 10:50 - Jun 11 by glasso | Southgate was building towards success but, like you say, I very much doubt he wanted to stay in the job after 4 tournaments because we have fans and media who destroy you for anything other than winning trophies, despite the fact we don't ever win trophies. It's bizarre. But Tuchel will grow tired of it soon and then we'll be able to destroy someone else in a few years' time. |
Yeah we don’t and we should have by now. Our last Euros squad was worth about 1.5-2BN, St George’s Park is state after the art. After South Africa we actually started doing some things right behind the scenes and we have been developing and bringing through top talent, which he was a part of. Done loads of good things and made England fun again for a while there but no prizes for second place, especially when you just sit there and watch your counterpart change the game and do nothing. If it wasn’t for Bellingham his tenure would have finished in disastrous fashion if last summer ended like that against a minnow and it was mighty close. After a blip post their golden era, Spain had talent come through and immediately won something taking the game to their opposition.

Tuchel - get rid on 13:16 - Jun 11 by _clive_baker_ | No point calling him up at all IMO. I don't understand how Tuchel can say Delap 'went down with Ipswich' and needs to find a way to be playing in the Premier League while picking a bloke playing in Saudi Arabia over Delap or Solanke. If its about adding experience why leave Maguire at home? I hope there's a plan behind it, but on the face of it it makes little sense. To my mind I would start with the basis of a likely world cup team and work backwards from there. There should always be room to adjust based on next seasons form and what not, but bring 2 or 3 in at a time to see them among a core of regulars. I'm not sure what's to gain with so much rotation. Defensively especially, I'd wager the back 4 & keeper from last night will never start another England game together. I'd be pretty confident 4 of the 5 won't, and wouldn't be surprised if 3 of those 5 don't. It's miles away from our starting XI, its not a fair test of any of them and we learned nothing. Great post. "I don't understand how Tuchel can say Delap 'went down with Ipswich' and needs to find a way to be playing in the Premier League while picking a bloke playing in Saudi Arabia over Delap or Solanke" Very strange isn't it, esp given it's obvious that Delap is moving to a Prem club next season. Even at Chelsea he'd be likely to get game time, even if off the bench at first.

Tuchel - get rid on 12:09 - Jun 11 by Ryorry | Not being able to work with a group whenever you like, and not being able to buy in the best new blood that you can, seem big differences that outweigh the similarities to me. The main problem here seems to me the short-termism of the blazers’ selection of Tuchel. Instead of building with youth (I’m pretty sure Liam Delap wouldn’t have been ‘on the beach’ last night if promoted from the U21s; and many Newcastle fans think same re Livramento not getting a shout while Walker was) he’s tempted by the ‘experienced old guard’ option. 100% this. Even the FA blazers could see that Southgate wasn't the smartest tactician so they went for Tuchel. He's on a short term contract (good - paying huge sums to failed foreign mercenaries stuck in the craw) but he's definitely going to be a short term manager, judged purely on how England do at the World Cup. That's the only justification I can see for picking the likes of Walker & Henderson.

I think he was just trying quell the hype to get Delap in. He also wanted all U21 players to be in the under 21s - maybe thought winning the u21 Euros would be better for them long term? I'm hoping he's just experimenting at the moment as he's made some odd decisions so far

well they would be mentally prepared for a World Cup (one would hope) although how many times have we seen players burnt out when they reach a summer tournament?

Using trusted heads until the younger ones have played in the U21 Euros or the World Club Cup.

Tuchel - get rid on 13:08 - Jun 11 by itfcjoe | You'd hope an elite tactical manager wouldn't need to try out the most basic 442 you've ever seen and allow Senegal to get in every time they passed a straight ball forwards |
Is Tuchal ‘elite’? I’ve not overly ever been hugely impressed by him think hes a decent manager but that’s about it imo. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Except Delap isn’t in the U21s, he’s opted for the Club trophy with Chelsea instead, from what I read recently. I don’t think he’d have made the same choice if he’d been picked for the senior England squad!

The U21s GK James Trafford has missed the tournament so that he could sit on the bench for games vs Andorra and Senegal; Noni Madueke could have been left with them as well so don't think he's any way prioritised the U21s - which is fine but can't pretend he has
