After season one, the general concensus 14:45 - Jun 12 with 1351 viewsFromReuserWithLove

was that Cameron Burgess was no better than Luke Chambers and even James Wilson. Some even suggesting it would have made sense to have just re-signed Chambo for another year rather than 'waste' 750k on big Cam.

Fast forward to today and Burgess is being linked with Spanish giants Valencia. Who saw that coming?

Now, we have some writing off Greaves and suggesting we'd have been betting sticking with Woolfy etc.

all i'm saying is.....let's just give some of these players a little more time.

Was it though?

Plus, 'better than Chambo' is a pretty high standard, tbf.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

A little tidbit I'd heard was one of the reasons that Ashton et al lost faith with Cook is because he wanted to replace Burgess with Chey Dunkley in that upcoming January transfer window.....having just signed him that summer he'd basically written him off

Not at that stage of his career it wasn't.

Alongside Morsy, I think Burgess has been the most 'improved' player since McKenna took charge.

Do not begrudge him one bit taking a deal out in Spain. Go up against the likes of Mbappe, Lewandowski and Lamine Yamal for 3 years, or slog it in here the Championship. No brainer.

Poll: We’ve got super KM, he knows exactly what we need. Woolfie at the back…

I wouldn't go as far to say that Cook was absolutely awful.
A tad awful maybe.

Don't believe a word I say. I'm only kidding. Or am I?

Hahahaha, no better than chambo is not a high standard. Can remember watching Ipswich and thinking how awful chambers was and that he was our worst player. I think the standard around him then dropped making him look good

Even as recently as Oxford in the fog, less than 2.5 years ago, Burgess looked a long, long way off being a top end League 1 player let alone a good Championship one.

It's been a good journey for him personally, and us as a club, whatever happens next.

Hardly played in Kieran's first six months here, although he made a couple of positive comments about his attitude and said he's been unlucky not to be more involved.

You can't go around making statements like that, we'll have the usual characters saying, ‘I don't recall anyone posting things like that......’ ;)

Not going to begrudge Cam anything but losing him will sting.

Mainly got his break due to Edmundson getting injured didn't he? He grabbed that chance brilliantly mind you. I thought he looked pretty hopeless to begin with and wasn't sure he'd make the step up to the Championship despite a great season in League 1. He's just got better and better.
