Club world cup 07:50 - Jun 15 with 2384 views | ringwoodblue | I was surprised to see that games are being shown on C5. Thought it would be on TNT or Prime which I don’t have. Might watch the Chelsea game tomorrow just to see if Delap gets any minutes and if so, how well he plays. Is anyone else going to watch any of the games or are you not that bothered?

Club world cup on 08:38 - Jun 15 with 2150 views | MattinLondon | I’ll watch some matches simply to watch some teams play which I wouldn’t normally see on telly. B Munich are playing Auckland later on today which is Tommy Smith’s team - be good to watch him in action again. Football is the only sport which I’m really interested in. So if it’s on, I’ll watch it. [Post edited 15 Jun 8:41]

It's confusing, but Auckland City isn't Tommy Smith's team. It's Auckland FC which play in the Oz league, and are only a year old. The team at the WCC are Auckland City who play in the New Zealand league and have won the Oceania Champions League a number of times, but are amateur. It's going to be a whitewash

Club world cup on 12:49 - Jun 15 with 1857 views | Ftnfwest | The appeal to a degree is that it might be a little like world cups of old in that you didn’t know a lot of the overseas players beforehand and discovered’ them as part of the experience. That ended by the 90s mostly as a lot of the players are already in the prem or top European leagues. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Just an e-mail address i believe. To add, England U21's v Slovenia at 5pm on Chan 4. Soccer Aid on ITV1 just to overload even more. [Post edited 15 Jun 13:45]

which means the semi final and final at most. I was not fully aware of the make up of the teams. Bonkers competition.

I agree with this. And I suspect in 20 years or so it’ll be enormous. Problem is, it’s going to warp domestic competition in the same way the ECL has done. This amateur mob from NZ might get a proper going over, but they’ll also go home and be able to outspend all of their domestic rivals on a ridiculous level on the back of the cash they get from this outing. It’s sh1te for domestic football but it will lead to a global power super league ultimately.

It will probably lead to the biggest clubs in Europe who don't get invited setting up their own tournament in some random country with more money than sense. Qatari Super Series or something. Although that would probably lead Fifa to just make it a 64 team tournament.

The latter I think. They’re already talking 48 teams for the 2029 edition and moving it to every other year.

Club world cup on 19:43 - Jun 15 with 1290 views | Mark | I won't watch a minute of the live matches or highlights out if principle (and lack of interest) as I hate what they are doing to our game with wild financial imbalance. The World Cup is supposed to be for national teams to compete in a special event, with everyone interested getting excited and joining in. I hardly expect people across the nation to fly Man City flags out of their windows.

It will simply lead to a player, whose current transfer value is £40M, now being worth £60M. With salary expectations going up-and-up (along with ticket prices).

Accidentally downvoted. You are quite right. Preseason is fine for the 70% effort etc etc. This tournament is about Saudi dominance of FIFA (DAZN is Saudi). It undermines FIFA own international tournaments (for the first time?) And it means that many top players get zero time off this summer (pretty much straight into a short preseason and then a World Cup year. Oh and next year's World Cup is almost 6 weeks long).

I can guarantee that there’ll be a lot of noise about fatigue and injuries this time next year.

Thing is, the USA isn't all footied out. The PL and CL have been marketed so much that the appetite is there for live games and they don't have them. So many will line up to pay the hideous costs and watch something that's finally more than just a pre season friendly. Which they also pay a fortune for
