Orwell Bridge down to 40mph in the variable zone.... 08:30 - Jun 19 with 2185 views | ITFC_Forever | which is fine. But it's still 60mph in the parts before and after that... so why do people still drive at 40 through the 60 parts? 40 will be an ambition though come this time next week.

Orwell Bridge down to 40mph in the variable zone.... on 13:41 - Jun 19 by itfcjoe | I always go 30 there and have people overtaking and undertaking me - don't think people realise it is 30 as not many signs up [but with lampposts and no signs that means it's a 30] My Dad got done there and had to do a speed awareness a few weeks ago |
Missus did too. Moaned at me about the speed limit in place… apparently every she’s spoken to thinks it’s a 40… Ok love 😂

Orwell Bridge down to 40mph in the variable zone.... on 13:12 - Jun 19 by stonojnr | If it were only 35 to 40 I doubt the police would be interested, try more like 50 to 60. |
30 + 10% + 2 + 2ish So about >37 on your speedo.

Orwell Bridge down to 40mph in the variable zone.... on 10:42 - Jun 19 by Pinewoodblue | Drivers who are blind to derestriction signs at the end of roadworks annoy me, especially if in right hand lane on a dual carriageway. |
Of course it's dead easy to get passed, when you're on two wheels :-) And for those that like to get on it, I can heartily recomend the Stornoway to Tarbert road, albeit it's a fair old run to get there. Did see a few sheep, cows, deer and a couple of pigs so you do need to have yer wits about you.

Orwell Bridge down to 40mph in the variable zone.... on 22:57 - Jun 19 with 207 views | Nthsuffolkblue | The before part will often be due to the traffic ahead slowing down. If there is little warning, reduced speed limits frequently lead to traffic stopping further back. After, it will be those wanting to travel at 45 overtaking those still travelling at 40 so no one can get past any faster.

You say this, but I got caught out doing *36* (!) on a Coventry ring road just last month, I was unfamiliar and it was 10pm and pretty empty. So speed awareness course for me, which of course costs the same £100 as the fine and points would. What a farking racket. To make things worse it turns out Coventry is a total sh!thole which I doubt I will choose to visit again. Unless for football reasons, possibly.

As others have said, thats not reliably true. I've been stopped by a police car for doing 60 down Euston Road (30 limit) ages back & pre-camaras and let off - the copper accepted that I was tired and wouldn't do it again.. Then again, I've also had a ticket for doing a few mph over the limit (camara) I got done recently (80 in a 70) and got a speed course offer, which I took: they made a point of saying that even the commonly held view that speed limit +10% being safe from tickets is bollox - all depends on the police force or the copper involved.

Orwell Bridge down to 40mph in the variable zone.... on 13:09 - Jun 20 with 73 views | baxterbasics | I also would like to know why the Martlesham to Ipswich via Kesgrave Main Rd is a 30 limit the whole way. I get there's the school between the two Grange Farm roundabouts, heck make it 20 in that stretch (even though there is a Subway crossing). But the rest at 30 makes no sense when you eventually arrive at either Colchester Rd or Heath Rd which are 40 despite being more built up. Silly and inconsistent. You don't have much choice during busy times but late evenings/early mornings it is very frustrating having to stick to 30 all the way along. [Post edited 20 Jun 13:10]

I used to think it was to do with the boundary with suffolk and ipswich councils (because that's roughly where it changes from 30 to 40) but i think scc are in charge of it all. Has always been an anomaly.

Cameras are always 10% + 2 and then the amount your speedo overreads it (about 2). I remember a long time ago the N&S Speed Cameras twitter account accidentally tweeting out the official guidelines (i.e. the thresholds for prosecution, speed course etc). i always thought the buffer was there as it was harder to prove the accuracy when only just over. willing to be corrected on this though.
