Phil… what other possible names were there for TWTD when you launched? 16:19 - Jun 22 with 4149 viewsMatt_Netherlands

Just thinking we must he quite rare to have our main forum ( / fanzine) with a name that mentions nothing to do with a club nickname, local area etc etc.

And for anyone else… if you were starting up again from scratch what else would you call TWTD?

If we were starting it as a news and views website, which is what it's been for the last 25 years, we'd have chosen something more newsy and less fanziney. It did cause us problems with one or two people at the club arguing we were 'just a fanzine' when we were trying to get access, hence we promoted TWTD rather than the full name in an NME or GQ sort of way.

'Why The Hell Do I Do This' ? WTHDIDT...hmm, not quite the same ring to it as TWTD. But GQ ? That would be like having a forum where clothing brands, the latest films, where to go on holiday etc. are discussed.

It amalgamated with TWTD when the other Phil and Gav took over.

There was 2 Phil & Gavs? This is confusing. I became aware of TWTD (the fanzine) about 98 I think? When I used to stop past the stall pre-match outside PR to buy a copy. You and current Gav ran it then IIRC

If I could wind the clock back I'd probably call the site Facebook.

Yes, we did. Gavin Barber and Phil Arnold ran it before us. I took it over with Steve Mellen, who subsequently worked for the EADT, and current Gav got involved a couple of years after as the website was in its very early days and his involvement moved that on.

I still have some of those old TWTD fanzines. Hard to believe they are over 30 years old. Mind you, not sure some of the content would be published today

Just had a look on the shelf where I keep my Town programmes and found sixteen paper TWTDs including a Sex Pistols pastiche 'Joe Future' cover with a BFJ interview headline (I wonder how he felt about that acronym ?), Simon Milton as Shakin' Stevens and, despite the outrageous 25% price hike sometime between Nov. '97 and May '98, the Sergeant Pepper's cover.

Indeed, it started in 1989/90 and we didn't get involved until late 1994.

This has got me wondering if there's many of the old original batch of fanzines are still around in one form or another - Wiki says that the magnificently titled Brian Moore's Head Looks Uncannily Like London Planetarium (Gillingham) has bitten the dust, whereas King Of The Kippax (Man City) and War Of The Monster Trucks (Sheff Wed) are still going.

As for that lot up the road, I remember there being Liverpool Are On The Telly Again and I'm sure there was one that had the Wensum in the title, but was WOTB ever a paper 'zine? I mean, considering the horrific website design it hasn't moved far from about 1997.

I know there were compilations floating around at the end of the nineties as well - big thick things with bits from a variety of fanzines which was always interesting - seem to recall there being a match report from one (Sure it was one of the Yorkshire clubs - Rotherham seems to ring a bell) which had comprehensive reports for all the other matches, but a thumping at home just had the sentence "The useless useless b*stards" and that was it. That made me guffaw solidly for a good ten minutes.

There was also a series of books called (I think) Survival Of The Fattest in the late 90s, which had fanzine editors review the season just gone. In fact I've got a feeling that the Town reviews were written by a certain P Ham Esq, but I might have misremembered that.

You're right, I contributed to a couple of those books. City Gent is still going, think that's the longest-running fanzine. Ferry Across the Wensum, I think.

I have a book called "Survival of the Fattest 2" a review of the 95/96 season which contains entries from many fanzines. There is one entry for Ipswich Town from "Dribble" which according to the book was started in the 1988/89 season by Alasdair Ross (a councillor now?) and Dave Sheddon.
