Actually feeling quite sad about Axel going 07:20 - Jun 27 with 1119 views | thebooks | Apart from the fact he was our best defender. And had a good song. We got his career back on track. I don’t really blame him for taking a PL contract, or moving back to Manchester, but I do feel he owes us a bit. The better story was he stays with us long term. He was quite likeable as well, wasn’t he? Oh well. One downside of being a better club in and around promotion is the churn of players you actually like.
Actually feeling quite sad about Axel going on 07:29 - Jun 27 with 1054 views | bsw72 | Not our best defender, but one of the better ones. His fitness record is problematic, the fact he was only available 50% of the time he was with us was a frustration for me.
Actually feeling quite sad about Axel going on 08:14 - Jun 27 with 905 views | ArnieM | His comment when signing for Burnley.." it's was an easy decision," just hours after the Turkish club pulled out of the deal, probably says all we need to know about the player. He'll be looking for another club in 12 months time.

Actually feeling quite sad about Axel going on 08:20 - Jun 27 with 884 views | Herbivore | I feel pretty fine about it to be honest. It always felt like a bit of a stopgap for both teams. It was telling we didn't offer him new terms last summer when he only had a year left on his deal, while others got new contracts ahead of him. In the promotion season, he took a while to really get going and ended up making the right back slot his own quite late in the season. It didn't feel like he'd really been a key player in that side as such. Ben Johnson, in Axel's position, was then one of our first signings after promotion. Axel stepped up well to the Prem, a very good one on one defender, but he missed half the season through injury and that inability to last a full season is why he's now joining Burnley rather than a Newcastle or Villa. His time here always felt more of a marriage of convenience than a love affair I think, hence me not feeling particularly sad about it ending.

Actually feeling quite sad about Axel going on 08:28 - Jun 27 with 852 views | BlueBoots | Think he was one of the few players we had last season who could cope when we came up against the Prem teams who had a bit more physicality about them... ...however, I think that will be less important this season, as we're more likely to need a RB who can offer more going forward to support the RW (the way Janoi used to with Burns), and O'Shea has a bit more pace than Woolf to get across and cover. Shame to lose any decent player - will be interested to see where Burnley play him...may revert to CB for all we know.

Except that's not quite what he said "It became a very simple decision after speaking to the manager" - is the actual quote and a pretty standard statement from a footballer joining any new club. One thing I've noticed this year, seemingly more than ever before, is the angst towards any player who has the audacity to leave us. Delap and Axel both seem to be getting negative comments when in reality they have been good for us and are simply moving on to benefit their careers, not because they don't want to be here

Well said. I saw actual human beings who seemed perplexed that Delap had the audacity to leave us for Chelsea....I'm convinced Premier league football messed some of our fans up.

Never get this bitterness to players leaving - I assume some of these posters have ever left an employer for a payrise or better opportunity. It’s not like he’s sold his soul to go to Saudi. Did a great job for us and owes us nothing - best of luck to him.

Actually feeling quite sad about Axel going on 08:40 - Jun 27 with 789 views | BloomBlue | When he played he was good, but the issue was, when. Also some people are talking as if we never conceded a goal from our right then he played, incorrect, we did concede goals from the right. Don't get me wrong I would preferred that he stayed. But he was always using us as a stepping stone, to get his fitness back. Plus being out of contract helped him, if we had been in a situation of asking (ie) £5m for him no way would Burnley be interested. It's a no brainer for them, he's on a free, plus they're unsure of his injury record as they've only offered him a year. I don't get worked up when players leave, its a job to them, and as in any working environment people move jobs. I think we have enough cover in that position currently, but would allow for a loan of a younger PL player if required.

I think it’s far more likely that he had told them he was going to Burnley and that was their spin to save face. We have some very strange fans who seem to revel in slagging off our players.

You do realise that we all have access to the internet and can actually see what he said, which is different, especially the context, to what you claimed he said. The actual quote: "It became a very simple decision after speaking to the manager and the message was very clear, precise and straight to the point," said Tuanzebe. "It's a new chapter for me, back in the vicinity of Manchester and home and I'm ready to continue my journey now at Burnley." Your quote: ." it's was an easy decision" I'd be a bit embarrassed if I was you . . . [Post edited 27 Jun 8:46]

Premier League club comes in for footballer. Footballer wants to play in Premier League. Footballer joins Premier League club. I’m shocked and disgusted by this…is anyone else shocked and disgusted?
Actually feeling quite sad about Axel going on 09:37 - Jun 27 with 506 views | GavTWTD | I loved Axel but thought he was a problem player/position for us. I felt he was an excellent RCB and good at defensive RB but didn't offer much going forward. We need better attacking options than him this season at RB and RCB is filled. Definitely wish him well at Burnley and sorry if that makes me "wet".

I agree with this along with other comments here. As someone said the fact that he wasn’t offered terms last year was key. It’s a great opportunity to look into the market now and develop a player because whilst we have options Johnson and Clarke haven’t shown enough for us to role with then next season, should we gain promotion. A year in football though is a long time. Axel was decent for us when he played. Solid defender but with limitations going forward would be a fair assessment. Full backs are key key positions in the league we have just left, I hope we take the opportunity now to develop something there for 26/27 season.

Actually feeling quite sad about Axel going on 09:47 - Jun 27 with 460 views | greyhound | Feels like this one hurts more as he was here for the promotion, a mainstay when fit and frankly felt like a player at the spine of the team when considering a promotion ready team. Mark Ashtons job for the summer gets considerably bigger with each departure. I make it 6 required in at this point and I expect a couple more to still leave.

I totally agree with every word here, said exactly the same thing to a mate. Always felt he thought he was better than us, although I don't 100% know why.

For me, I think it cut both ways a bit though. We could have offered him a 2 year deal last summer with an option of a third year but we didn't. I feel like even though he's been first choice for a fair chunk of his time here, we've never been fully sold on him much as it's never felt fully like he's loved being here.
