Glad the PL have admitted we were hard done by with VAR last season on 17:27 - Jul 1 with 1338 views | MattinLondon | That panel mentioned the Brighton game - my memory is a tad hazy, but isn’t that the match where a Brighton player recklessly took out Walton whilst in midair and VAR failed to intervene?
Glad the PL have admitted we were hard done by with VAR last season on 17:42 - Jul 1 with 1198 views | redrickstuhaart | It rather depends on their criteria. 8 out of 10 decisions could be in our favour, but if all of those were plainly correct, and there were 5 more which should have involved VAR in our favour but didnt, that is not VAR working in our favour. Its nonsense.

The idea behind the independent panel is that the PGMOL are not marking their own homework. Not that the PGMOL have to agree with their conclusions.

They're only looking at incidents where VAR was used? Perhaps they should also look at the incidents where it should have been used.

Quite. No reference to Leicester. Nor to Leif's clear pen against City.... For starters.

Which is also what they look at hence the mentions of Brighton and Brentford where they felt VAR should have intervened against us. The full article is on the ESPN site: https://www.espn.co.uk/football/story/_/id/45340176/every-premier-league-var-err

That’s almost One VAR error for every team over the course of a season. Totally agree, until it’s fit for purpose and 100% reliable get rid.
Glad the PL have admitted we were hard done by with VAR last season on 21:28 - Jul 1 with 349 views | jayessess | Would say in general that my issue with the refereeing last season was that any decision where there was any degree of subjectivity went against us, not out of conspiracy but out of the unconscious expectations of officials. Those constant subjective decisions wouldn't show up in a review of major incidents and the people reviewing the major incidents aren't immune to the same unconscious biases affecting match officials. Was tickled that the two decisions they highlighted as going our way were two bits of wrestling from crossing - the kind of incident that happens 10 times every match!

Isn't it a massive admission that on-field officials showed an inherent bias against us? Lies, damn lies, and statistics.

Hasn't that probably always been the case, though? We're a small team in that league. Bigger teams get more decisions generally because they have higher profile players and managers, bigger fan bases, and ultimately better players. There is constant pressure on officials, it's absolutely natural that they are going to succumb to that at times.* While you don't want it happening all the time, you don't want the game to be refereed by robots. For the same reason when we had penalty appeals against Port Vale at PR in League One, you want your home advantage and crowd noise to count. *Whether VAR should have intervened is a separate argument I think.
