That Clarke, Hutchinson and Philogene front 3 is going to be quite something this season. Deary me.

Hutchinson, Chaplin, Clarke. Or; Ogbene, Hutchinson, Clarke * Philogene will have to have an electric pre-season to put himself into a starting spot on the first day, for my money. I still struggle to get over how bad his start with us was. *Or any of the other combinations we have. We are absolutely stacked for those positions. I'm bracing myself for a Broadhead departure, and it'll be sh*t.

He was regularly starting for the U21 and had two 15m+ transfers. I don't think it's fair to judge him coming into a struggling team in the PL especially given he was then injured. The evidence that we have is that he's one of the best players in his position at this level. SB
Philogene injury on 07:53 - Jul 6 with 1282 views | PioneerBlue | We’ve usually ended with 8 or 9 players in those positions not sure we’ve started that way and that might be to cover injuries at the time. Injuries to Burns and Ogbene do put the cat amongst the pigeons. Clarke Szmods Ogbene Broadhead Chaplin Jaden No mention of Burns or Hutch* let’s hope he stays but likely to leave and needs replacing in some way you’d have thought.

Hutchinson will not be here, that’s pretty obvious.

Why's it pretty obvious? Genuine question. I get the logic behind him leaving, but there's been nothing I've seen to suggest it's a definite at all.

To be replaced at 70 mins with Szmodics, Burns and Broadhead.

I think that's pretty likely but it would also be 35m in the kitty which is two very good CMs. I would prefer not to lose him though. SB

I was reading an article about Grealish this week and how Man City want £40 million for him and that several big clubs want him but none will pay anything like that for him. Obviously at 29 he would be a depreciating asset but it did make me think that £35 million for Omari is a serious amount to spend and hopefully puts many clubs off

He was definitely underwhelming as a big money signing, but I think in a struggling team, his stats tell a story. Hardly had a full on crack in a flowing team. Played 11 games in total. 5 prem starts, 5 as sub, scored 3 goals. As with pretty much the entirety of our new purchases last season I think a proper run together in a, let's face it, much weaker league, will galvanize and push them all on. I think many forget, willfully or otherwise, how ridiculous the step up was to the prem, and that we'll be playing with players that tore apart the championship at their last crack.

It's right on the limit for a gamble I would say, yes he is talented but his goals and assists ratio aren't that high for someone you could be spending £35 million on

As you say Grealish isn't a 'high ceiling' type now, plus his wages will likely be double Omari's at least. So the outlay will be much bigger overall and the potential returns much less. So a club being put off from Grealish at £40m won't automatically be put off by Hutch at £35m. A decent season with a bigger team, maybe an England cap or two and that's peanuts. Plus if no one goes for him at £35m then jobs a good un, he'll rip the championship up next year. [Post edited 6 Jul 11:16]
